Sign language, based n sight instead f sunds, is a type f language that uses hand mvements, facial expressins and bdy language t cmmunicate. It is used mainly by the deaf and peple wh can hear but cannt speak. But it is als used by sme peple withut any hearing prblems, mst ften families and relatives f the deaf, and interpreters (翻译员)wh help build cnnectins between the deaf and wider cmmunities.

Plitical adviser Chen Zhihng suggested the city gvernment think f a cmplete and unified translatin (统一翻译)rules fr English signs in Shenzhen.
Befre making the suggestin, Chen, vice chairman f Shenzhen Federatin f Returned Overseas Chinese, did a wide research n the English signs (标识)at majr public areas in the city and service prviders, such as Futian Railway Statin, Shenzhen Bk City, Shenzhen Cncert Hall, Sheku Prt and s n.
“There are a large number f unclear and wrng translatins,” said Chen. "The prly-translated English signs have seriusly harmed the image f the city.”
Chen pinted ut the main reasns behind this prblem. First, there is nt enugh prfessinal (专业的)guidance. Secnd, nt having a deep understanding f English culture als leads t pr translatin. In additin, it is difficult fr the public t find ways t reprt mistakes.
As early as 2010, the Shenzhen Municipal Freign Affairs Office made a guide fr English translatins fr signs in public spaces in Shenzhen. It prvided rules fr translating place names and business activities int English.
