    一、阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)
    第一节(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)
    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
    A
When it comes to friends, I desire those who will share my happiness with me. When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviours. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say, “Let’s start with a train whistle today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changed into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.
When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair (失望) and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other.
For almost four years I have had a remarkable friend. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the other’s dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most interesting moments, I often think: “Yes, I must tell…” We have never met.
It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of a psychologist (心理学家), who will only fill up the healing (愈合的) silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.
( )1. In Paragraph 2, “We gave London to each other.” probably means ________.
    A. our exploration of London was a memorable gift to both of us
    B. we were unwilling to tear ourselves away from London
    C. our unpleasant feelings about London disappeared
    D. we parted with each other in London
( )2. According to Paragraph 3, the author and her friend ________.
    A. call each other regularly
    B. have similar personalities
    C. enjoy writing to each other
    D. dream of meeting each other
( )3. In the darkest moments, the author would prefer to ________.
    A. ask for professional help
    B. be left alone
    C. stay with her best friend
    D. break the silence
    B
What’s your opinion about finding good friends? Speaking from my past experience, it is very difficult to find good friends that you can trust but once you have found them, they are worth keeping forever! Therefore, I think friendship is the most important relationship that anybody could have.
The qualities I look for in a friend are a good sense of humour and sensitivity. A friend would have to be strong-minded and highly spirited. I think that these qualities are the key qualities to look for in a good friend.
Even the best friends can still have arguments between themselves, though usually about more serious topics, rather than the usual childish arguments. Some matters can seriously affect friendship. If one of your friends started experimenting with harmful and dangerous drugs, what would you do? A good friend would try to help as much as possible, while a bad example of a friend would simply shrug and turn a blind eye.
Not only the bad things affect friendship—good activities do too, such as bonding with one another, not just by going out on a night with them, but by spending quality time with them and talking to each other. This is a key aspect of a good friendship.
Good friends do not always have to be in the same age group as you. I have a good friend and she is 47 years old and I am 16.
Unfortunately, some people lose contact with their friends as they grow older, which is a sad way to lose a good friend.
I think friendship is one of the most important things in life because if you have no friends you will have no happiness.
( )4. According to the author, true friendship ________.
    A. is easy to get
    B. needs management
    C. deepens with time
    D. is the friendship without arguments
( )5. According to the author, which matters least in friendship?
    А. Age.
    B. Confidence.
    C. Sense of humour.
    D. Communication.
( )6. Which of the following sayings can match the author’s view on friendship?
    A. Old friends and old wines are best.
    B. A friend without faults will never be found.
    C. A friend to everybody is a friend to nobody.
    D. A life without a friend is a life without sunshine.
    C
As farm kids, my siblings (兄弟姐妹) and I were expected to work hard and do our jobs. We knew no better, so didn’t really question it—at least until we were young teenagers and wondered why our friends had so much more free time than us.
That ability to depend on myself has served me very well through life. The independence and self-reliance not only affected my physical abilities. It came to shape me emotionally too. However, it can, at times, also be a huge weight to bear.
As my physical strength has been affected by rheumatoid arthritis, a disease that causes pain and swelling in one or more joints of the body, there have been many lessons for me in learning how to receive help. My health is now much improved compared to what it was a couple of years ago, or even last year. Daily challenges do still exist, but I have learned that it is OK to ask for help.
The joy that others receive in lending a hand has made me realise that it is almost selfish to not ask for help! There is no need to deny others the pleasure of helping. If we are in need, it is more than OK to ask for assistance. Physical and emotional self-reliance are strengths, certainly, when used well. But the overuse of independence is unhealthy, unbalanced and unnecessary.
Since being a mum, too, I’ve been given lots of lessons on the need to connect, and to acknowledge that I’m vulnerable and need others to rely on. There are certainly times like this in all of our lives, whether a parent or not. Sometimes life does just get too much.
If we can loosen our need for independence, though, and grow into more interdependence, ease and space do grow. The braver we are to reach out and be open, the easier life is. It not only gives us emotional relief, but it brings joy and stronger connections in our relationships.
( )7. We can infer that as a kid, the author ________.
    A. Didn’t have any friends
    B. had to do a lot of work
    C. Didn’t like asking questions
    D. worked harder than her siblings
    ( )8. The author’s attitude towards self-independence changed after she ________.
    A. had children
    B. became a teenager
    C. formed her personality
    D. suffered from a disease
( )9. The underlined word “vulnerable” in the text means the author is ________.
    A. too sick to bring up the children
    B. too tired to carry on
    C. weak emotionally
    D. likely to give up
( )10. What can we learn from the author’s experience?
    A. Every coin has two sides.
    B. Strike while the iron is hot.
    C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
    D. Where there is a will, there is a way.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
I was born in Houston and grew up there. This August I came to Ithaca, beginning my first year as a college student. 11 At first it seemed a dream, but weeks later, I knew I was beginning a journey of new experiences and adventures.
I used to have my own room at home and everything in my house was in order. 12 I need to share one room with another person. Combining two people with different backgrounds can be chaotic. Living with a loud talker who shares everything can be very stressful. Usually, I had everything of my own, shared nothing and didn’t borrow without asking first. 13
Becoming a freshman in college is very different from being a high-school freshman. I was overwhelmed with all the new things to observe and take into account. I had tons of work without deadlines, and no one told me what to do or when to do it. 14 College is very different from high school or home where rules are set and you sail through life. College is a new beginning, an opportunity to grow up.
15 But now I know that what may seem frightening at first will have a better result than not experiencing it at all. Adjusting to new surroundings is an unknown journey that I look forward to as I go to class each day. I took my first real step. And now I am walking fearlessly in this unknown adventure that waits for me.
    A. This is very unlike high school, where teachers give an assignment with a deadline and step-by-step guidelines.
    B. Separating from some of my closest friends was one of the hardest things I had ever done.
    C. Becoming a freshman can stir up doubts, fears and even tears.
    D. Going to a small town from a big city was quite an adjustment.
    E. In college, all that has changed.
    F. When I came to college, I began to look for new challenges.
    G. After many arguments, I overcame the roommate disorder.
    11. ________ 12. ________ 13. ________ 14. ________ 15. ________

    第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
    阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty glass jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks right to the top, rocks about two inches in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open spaces between the rocks. The students laughed.
He asked his students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor then picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up all the remaining spaces.
“Now,” said the professor, “I want you to recognise that this is your life.”
“The rocks are the most important things—your family, your partner, your health, your children—anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things in life that matter, but on a smaller scale. The pebbles represent things like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else—the small stuff.
“If you put the sand or the pebbles into the jar first, there is no room for the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, or material things, you will never have room for the things that are truly most important. Pay attention to the things that are critical in your life. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. Talk with your parents. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the waste disposal. Take care of the rocks first—the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just pebbles and sand. They will take care of themselves.”
    注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
    2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
    3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

    三、
    第一节【答案】
    Dear Jack,
I often think that I’m really lucky that I have you as my best friend. You always lend me a hand when I am in trouble. Last month I was ill and stayed in hospital for two weeks. You took notes in class for me, and after class you came to help me with my lessons. You always try to cheer me up when I am in low spirits. When I have done something wrong, you point it out. You are always honest and never break your word. I am also very glad that I can help you when you need me.
Another reason why we are good friends is that we share the same interests, for example, reading, travelling and playing basketball. We have so much to talk about with each other when we are together. Friendship is very important in everyone’s life,do you agree? Let’s always care for and help each other and be good friends forever.
    Yours.
    Joe
    第二节【答案】
    Paragraph 1:
Later, students were asked to voice their own understandings. A student rose, saying shamefully that he only focused on his own small stuff, even enjoying all kinds of amusement rather than accompanying his parents. Another student continued, pointing out that taking care of family is really the most important thing in our life. What’s more, a good idea was put forward that everyone should reflect on his life, making room for critical things and creating a meaningful life. The professor nodded his head with a bright smile, encouraging more opinions.
    Paragraph 2:
A creative student compared the empty jar to time, which aroused great interests among the class. He explained that the way we filled the empty glass jar was the way we made use of our time. We seldom think carefully about it. Therefore, we usually waste time doing a lot of small stuff firstly, leaving less time to deal with the things that matter. For instance, we are easily addicted to games, preparing poorly for our examinations due to the limited time. Thus, it's high time that we should change ourselves after class.
