The clthes yu wear. The fd yu eat. The clr f yur bedrm walls. Where yu g and hw yu get there. The peple yu hang arund with. What time yu g t bed. What d these things have in cmmn? Yu’re asking. They’re just a few examples f many hundreds f things that yur parents cntrlled fr yu when yu were a child.
As a kid, yu didn’t have a say in very much that went n; yur parents made decisins abut everything frm the cereal yu ate in the mrning t the pajamas yu wre at night. And it’s a gd thing, t-kids need this kind f prtectin and assistance because they aren’t mature enugh t take care f themselves and make careful decisins n their wn.
But finally, kids grw up and becme teens. And part f being a teen is develping yur wn identity (身份认
同)---ne that is separate frm yur parents’. But as yu change and grw int this new persn wh makes yur wn decisins, yur parents have a difficult time adjusting (调整). They aren’t used t the new yu yet --- they nly knw yu as the kid wh had everything decided fr yu and didn’t mind.
In many families, it is this adjustment that can cause a lt f fighting between teens and parents. And issues like the type f friends yu have r yur attitudes t partying can cause bigger quarrels, because yur parents still always want t prtect yu and keep yu safe, n matter hw ld yu are.
The gd news abut fighting with yur parents is that in many families the arguing will lessen as parents get mre cmfrtable with the idea that their teen has a right t certain pinins. It can take several years fr parents and teens t adjust t their new rles, thugh. In the meantime, fcus n cmmunicating with yur parents.
Smetimes this can feel impssible --- like they just dn’t see yur pint f view and never will. But talking and
expressing yur pinins can help yu gain mre respect frm yur parents and yu may be able t reach cmprmises (和解) that make everyne happy. Fr example, if yu are willing t clean yur rm in rder t stay ut an hur later, bth yu and yur parents walk away with a gd deal. Keep in mind, t, that yur parents were
teens nce and that in mst cases, they can relate t what yu’re ging thrugh.

In the authr’s pinin, parents cntrl teens in rder t .
prevent them frm having their wn ideas
prtect them frm being hurt
make them respect parents in the family

Hw d I get rid f my parents’ cntrl?
Why d I fight with my parents s much?
B
When I was 16 years ld and in fster care (寄养中心) in Tennessee, I wanted a family very much. I asked fr the help f a judge, even the cmmissiner f the Department f Children’s Services, and was adpted (收养) just a week befre my 18th birthday.
We have a lt t be grateful fr and this hliday seasn let’s nt frget abut the mre than 415,000 yuth in fster care especially lder yuth These yuth are the mst likely t get verlked ( 忽 视 ) fr adptin, but they shuldn’t be. They need and deserve a family just as much as yung children d. Making an lder yuth a part f
yur family can bring just as much a jy as adpting a baby r a yunger child.
My adptin was life changing and prbably the best thing that ever happened t me. I still remember the first gift my parents gave t me. It was a Mickey Muse key chain with a key t their hme. They tld me that n matter what happened they wuld always lve me and I’d always have a place t cme hme t. This is ur 17th Thanksgiving
My first Thanksgiving with my family was a little verwhelming (难以应付的) with lts f extended family
including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cusins. Hwever, It’s when I realized that I wuld never have t spend anther hliday alne and that was truly an amazing feeling.
I was always eager t spend time with my little sister, Beth. She was six when I jined the family. My dad always says he knew we were really sisters, and I was n lnger a guest in the huse when Beth and I had ur first fight. Tday, she’s ne f my best friends, and I’m her biggest cheerleader.
There were als bittersweet Thanksgivings. One we spent in my mm’s hspital rm. It was there that she helped me plan my wedding but passed away three weeks befre the ceremny. My dad walked me dwn the aisle, and my sister was my maid f hnr. Because f ur bnd, we were able t supprt each ther thrugh that
challenging time and that’s what family is fr the gd and bad times.
It’s nice having my dad and sister t share hlidays and special ccasins. But they’re even mre imprtant when it cmes t the little things -like having smene t share my bad day with, celebrate my achievements at wrk, r help me think thrugh a difficult decisin. It’s in these mments that I just can’t imagine being alne in the wrld.
I’m s glad that I didn’t listen t thse peple wh said I’d never find a family, and that I was putting myself ut there fr rejectin (拒绝接受). It’s a risk fr lder fster yuth t cnsider adptin. It’s an pprtunity t be rejected nce again. But it’s a risk they shuld take because life desn’t end at 18. It’s really just beginning.
If yu knw smene wh might cnsider adpting an lder teen, please share my stry --- and have him r her
think f my family. They didn’t get t see my first steps. But they taught me s many things abut life, and were there t watch me walk acrss the stage when I graduated frm cllege and law schl and accmpanied (陪伴) me t the White Huse last year as I was hnred fr my wrk helping fster yuth.
I lk frward t many mre Thanksgivings with my family, and I’m thankful they chse me t be a part f their family.
What can we learn frm the authr’s persnal experiences?
It’s rather difficult fr lder yuth t be adpted.
Older yuth bring less jy than babies.
It’s unfrgettable t have bittersweet Thanksgivings.
An lder yuth aged 18 is t ld t need a family.
What makes the authr feel that she can’t imagine being alne in the wrld?
The family’s giving her a Mickey Muse as a gift.
The family’s always sharing happiness and srrw with her.
Her mther’s failing t attend her wedding.
Spending Thanksgiving with her extended family fr years.
Accrding t the authr, adptin really means fr lder yuth.
nt living alne any lnger
being taken gd care f by thers
being successful in career
being lved and accepted
What is the authr’s main purpse f writing the passage?
T express her lve fr her family.
T feel srry fr the unadptable lder yuth.
T ask mre peple t adpt the lder yuth.
T tell the readers nt t blindly believe thers.

In a recent survey in America, 62% f peple said that creativity was mre imprtant t success in the wrkplace than they had expected it wuld be when they were in schl.
9 . It is f curse pssible t scan ( 扫 描 ) peple’s brains and see which parts are firing when an idea is
created, but rather mre rmantically it can be thught f as smething that cannt be identified (识别). Creativity is
what cmes t yu when yu least expect it. Yu cannt demand creativity frm yur mind, nr can yu demand that yu are creative in a particular way.
One misunderstanding abut creativity is that it is meant fr a few special peple. This is nt true. 10 . Anther miscnceptin is that creativity is all abut the arts but this simply isn’t true: creativity extends t maths and science in just the way it des t music and literature.
Thse wh see things differently t thers and are cnfident enugh t make their ideas a reality are the nes wh make the greatest changes in the wrld. As a result, it is incredibly imprtant that schls d nt prevent creativity.
11 . Students shuld be taught t ask questins and investigate ( 探 究 ) when things d nt make sense. They
need t learn t view mistakes as pprtunities fr learning rather than smething that was unsuccessful.
It is wrrying that many schls are less cncerned nw with nurturing (培养) creativity when this is the mst imprtant time in histry fr it. It used t be that peple wrked hard, went t university, and gt a jb. 12 . But nw, everyne wrks hard, ges t university --- and there aren’t the jbs ut there that guarantee (保证) a safe future. 13 . We can use it t set urselves apart, and channel it t face the challenges f the future.
That was it
Creativity is influenced by many factrs
Rather, they shuld wrk t grw and exercise it
Withut creativity, we are n different frm ther peple
Hwever, creativity can be develped at any age
It’s hard t wrk ut where exactly creativity cmes frm
Everyne has the ability t be creative.
