It was also originally a nursery tale book written by Dr Seuss. It's the story of a green monster who wants to ruin Christmas but in the end discovers the power of love and generosity. I promise it's a great film with plenty of laughs along the way.Love Actually(2003)While this is not a personal favourite of mine, people in the UK absolutely love this film. It has many featuring actors and actresses. It might be a little difficult to follow as there are complex plots, so I recommend watching a translated version. However, the heart-warming elements of the film make it worth watching.Home Alone(1990)This amusing masterwork is one of my favourite films of all time. It tells the story of a boy, Kevin, who is left alone in his house when his large family forgets to take him on vacation with them. While other family members are away, burglars try to rob the house and Kevin must protect his home by setting traps. The trips, falls and traps will have you laughing out loud as you watch an 8-year-old boy beat two grown men.Miracle on 34th Street(1994)You can't have Christmas in an English-speaking country without watching this movie. It's not funny like Home Alone or The Grinch, but it is incredibly touching. It's about a man who claims to be Santa, but nobody believes him except a lawyer anda little girl. The story line may seem a little childish but you can enjoy it at any age1.Which film is adapted from a fairy tale?A. The Grinch.     B. Home Alone    C. Love Actually.      D. Miracle on 34th Street.2.What is Home Alone mainly about?A. An unsuccessful family vacation.B.A boy protecting his home by himself.C.A terrible suffering of a little boy.D. An 8-year-old boy's practical jokes.3.Why is Miracle on 34th Street so popular?A. Owing to its moving plot.B. Because of its funny story.C. Due to its childish story line.D. Because of its famous actors and actresses.BIn the past decade, the use of social media has grown in a way that no one could have guessed. It has turned some teenagers into celebrities and turned the famous into the infamous, overnight.A key feature of social media, however, is its volatility.Trends come and go, disappearing almost as quickly as they appeared.Short video apps such as Tik Tok and its Chinese equivalent(对应物)Douyin, took the world by storm. The Telegraph reported that Tik Tok was ranked 8th on Apple's App Store in April. And Douyin had more than 300 million domestic monthly active users in June, CNBC said. Why are these short videos-which are rarely longer than a few minutes-so popular? Jiang Yige, Singapore-based analyst at FengHe Fund Management, has a theory. "Short videos are just right to fill in the little gaps in our busy schedules,"he told CNBC.These videos--apart from being very convenient--are important to teenagers because they allow them to express themselves, according to Teen Vogue.Liza Koshy, a user of the US app Musical. ly who has over 2 million followers, said,"The sense of community that users of short video apps get is another appealing feature."Live streaming(直播)is a feature of our social media life that now seems as natural as sunrise . It's a pretty neat idea : You can watch anyone , anywhere , live . However , China has taken live streaming to a whole new level. In China, more than 100million viewers monthly watch a live streaming video. Forbes thought that a number of factors had led to the popularity of live streams. Among them is viewers' ability to interact with others using unknown names. However, the quick development of social media may be having side effects too. Fake news is one serious problem it causes. Materials shared on these platforms are often not checked for accuracy. The most basic content can be false and can mislead users one way or another. We use social media all the time; that doesn't mean that we understand the influence it is having on us. We should be mindful of both the time we spend on it and its impact on our minds.4. The underlined word "volatility" in Paragraph 2 possibly means "being__".A.changeable B.steadyC.promising D.violent5. According to Liza Koshy, short videos are very popular because_____.A.they are very convenientB.they help people kill timeC.they provide a sense of communityD.they allow people to express themselves6.What do we know about social media?A.The information from social media is totally reliable.B.When it comes to social media, people only know short videos.C.People can't communicate with each other without social media.D. There is still much room for improvement in social media.7.What is the author's attitude to the quick development of social media?A.Objective.B.Subjective.C.Favorable.D.Disapproving. CTeens and younger children are reading a lot less for fun, according to a Common Sense Media report published Monday. While the decline over the past decade is steep for teen readers, some data in the report shows that reading remains a big part of many children's lives, and indicates how parents might help encourage more reading.According to the report's key findings, “the proportion(比例) who say they‘hardly ever’read for fun has gone from 8 percent of 13-year-olds and 9 percent of 17-year-olds in 1984 to 22 percent and 27 percent respectively today.”The report data shows that pleasure reading levels for younger children. ages 2-8, remain largely the same. But the amount of time spent in reading each session has declined, from closer to an hour or more to closer to a half hour per session. When it comes to technology and readingthe report does little to counsel (建议) parents looking for data about the effect of e-readers and tablets on reading. It does point out that many parents still limit electronic reading, mainly due to concerns about increased screen time. The most hopeful data shared in the report shows clear evidence of parents serving as examples and important guides for their kids when it comes to reading, Data shows that kids and teens who do read frequently, compared to infrequent readers, have more books in the home, more books purchased for them, parents who read more often, and parents who set aside time for them to read.As the end of school approaches, and school vacation reading lists loom (逼近) ahead ,parents might take this chance to step in and make their own summer reading list and plan a family trip to the library or bookstore.8. What is the Common Sense Media report probably about?A. Children’s reading habits.B. Quality of children's books.C. Children’s after-class activities.D. parent-child relationships.9. Where can you find the data that best supports“children are reading a lot less for fun”?A. In paragraph 2.B. In paragraph 3.C. In paragraph 4D. In paragraph 5.10. Why do many parents limit electronic reading?A. E-books are of poor quality.B. It could be a waste of time.C. It may harm children’s health.D. E-readers are expensive.11. How should parents encourage their children to read more?A. Act as role models for themB. Ask them to write book reportsCSet up reading groups for themD. Talk with their reading class teachers DWe may think we’re a culture that gets rid of our worn technology at the first sight of something shiny and new, but a new study shows that we keep using our old devices (装置)well after they go out of style. That’s bad news for the environment- and our wallets - as these outdated devices consume much more energy than the newer ones that do the same things.  To figure out how much power these devices are using, Callie Babbitt and her colleagues at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York tracked the environmental costs for each product throughout its life - from when its minerals are mined to when we stop using the device. This method provided a readout for how home energy use has evolved since the early 1990s.Devices were grouped by generation. Desktop computersbasic mobile phones, and box-set TVs defined 1992. Digital cameras arrived on the scene in 1997.And WP3 players, smart phones, and LCD TVs entered homes in 2002before tablets and e-readers showed up in 2007.  As we accumulated more devices, however, we didn't throw out our old ones. "The living-room television is replaced and gets planted in the kids’ room, and suddenly one day you have a TV in every room of the house,” said one researcher. The average number of electronic devices rose from four per household in 1992 to 13 in 2007. We’re not just keeping these old devices - We continue to use them. According to the analysis of Babbitt's team, old desktop monitors and box TVs with cathode ray tubes are the worst devices with their energy consumption and contribution to greenhouse gas emissions (排放) more than doubling during the 1992 to 2007 window.  So what' s the solution(解决方案)? The team' s data only went up to2007but the researchers also explored what would happen if consumers replaced old products with new electronics that serve more than one function, such as a tablet for word processing and TV viewing. They found that more on-demand entertainment viewing on tablets instead of TVs and desktop computers could cut energy consumption by 44%.12. What does the author think of new devices?A. They are environment-friendly.B. They are no better than the old.C. They cost more to use at home.D. They go out of style quickly.13. Why did Babbitt's team conduct the research?A. To reduce the cost of minerals.B. To test the life cycle of a product.C. To update consumers on new technology.D. To find out electricity consumption of the devices.14. Which of the following uses the least energy?A. The box-set TV.           B. The tablet.C. The LCD TV.             D. The desktop computer.15. What does the text suggest people do about old electronic devices?A. Stop using them           B. Take them apartC. Upgrade them.            D. Recycle them.第二节  (5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5)  根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。We know that choosing a college major can be very hard. But have no fear !
