    III 阅读理解

    A

Once upon a time, there was a wonderful old man who loved everything on the land —— animals and plants.

One day while walking through the woods, the old man found a cocoon of a butterfly. He took it home. A few days later, a small opening appeared; he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and cut the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then came out easily.

But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expectedthat, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, or they would be smaller. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled (枯萎)wings. It never was able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and hurry did not understand was that the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening was nature's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were allowed to go through our life without any difficulties, it would cripple (无能) us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly.

36.The old man cut the cocoon in order to ____.

    A. kill the butterfly

    B. play with the butterfly

    C. make the butterfly come out easily

    D. have the butterfly

37.The reason why the butterfly could not fly is that _____.

    A. the old man broke its wings

    B. it was too small

    C. newly born butterflies can't fly

    D. it came out of its cocoon without enough struggle

38.What can we know from the passage?

    A. That old man was fond of everything except the butterfly.

    B. It was the old man that stopped the butterfly flying.

    C. The old man realized his mistake.

    D. It's not hard for the butterfly to come out of the cocoon.

    39. What does the author want to tell us by writing the passage?

     A .We should help others.

    B. Without others help we can still succeed.

    C. Struggles in our life can make us stronger.

    D. Butterflies can fly without people's help.

Do you want to watch a hot movie while chatting with your friend on the phone, or shop with your mobile while on train? The ongoing construction of a new telecommunication service will make these things a reality, very soon.

It is reported that China is to issue its first license for the commercial (商业) use of third generation telecommunication technology (3G) early next year.

The so-called 3G technology will enable mobile phone users to enjoy high-speed Internet-based services. It will help increase mobility in many areas of our lives.

Nowadays, many mobile phones allow you to send e-mail or read the latest stories on the Internet but their services are limited by their transporting speed, which is only 10 KB per second. But 3g will enable you to connect to the Internet with a speed of up to 2000 KB per second.

If recent mobile technology is like riding a bike on a country road, then 3G will make you fly on the information highway. For example, a mobile phone with 3 G technology will enable you to download a three-minute MP3 song within two minutes. But at the moment, it will take you up to an hour to do this with your mobile pone.

In the near future, we'll expect high-speed access to the Internet, entertainment , information and electronic commerce services wherever we are —— not just at our computers or television sets.

In the UK and many other European countries where 3G services have been around since 2003, 3G has already become a part of modern business life. Nowadays, employees are able to spend some of their working hours at home. The new technology allows the emergency services to provide a video link with a hospital or doctor for patients who need special care.

52.What can we use the mobile phone to do nowadays according to this passage?

       A.. Surf the Internet.

    B. Call our friends through video phones.

       C. Download a three-minute MP3 song within two minutes.

       D. Do online shopping.

53.3G will enable mobile phones to connect to the Internet with a transporting speed up to ____ times as what we use now.

       A.200           B.100          C.20              D.10

    54. From the passage we can know that _____.

       A. we can't enjoy Internet-based services now.

       B. it is impossible for us to listen to MP3 music without current mobile phones

       C. doctors can have a face-to-face talk with patients in emergency by using 3G mobile phones in the UK

    D. thanks to 3 G phones, many employees needn't travel to work any more

    55. What's the main idea of this message?

        A. You have to buy a new mobile phone if you want to enjoy 3G.

B.3G mobile technology will make our life richer and more convenient.

        C. In the future, you can enjoy high-quality music using your phone.

D.3G movies are coming to us this year.

    书面表达:

My opinion on copying others' homework

It is known to us all that some students copy others' homework.

As students, we have to do plenty of homework both at school and at home, but sometimes we have too much homework which is too difficult for us. On the other hand, some students are lazy, and are not interested in their lessons, nor do they work hard. So in order to finish the assignments and please their teachers, some students copy others; homework.

In my opinion,, it is wrong to copy others' homework because it breaks the rules of the school. We should be honest and try to finish our homework by ourselves instead of by copying. If you have trouble doing your homework you ca2 ask your classmates or teachers for help.
