    1 Talk t Ss abut the cntext f surviving an earthquake. Elicit any infrmatin abut the earthquakes in Taiwan r in ther parts f the wrld. Bring sme newspaper articles abut earthquakes.
    2 Ask Ss t quickly skim the text n their wn. Ask them t highlight the wrds they d nt knw. Then ask Ss t discuss them in pairs and try t wrk ut their meaning frm the cntext.
    3 Ask Ss t make list f wrds and phrases used in the text which describe nise and mvement/destructin, fear and hpe.
    * nise: big nise, thunder, screamed, real nise, bmbs, shuted
    * mvement/destructin: slight shaking, earth started t shake, ran (wildly), pieces f glass and bricks fell dwn, walls began t cme dwn
    * fear: screamed, frightened, dark, culd nt at all, a mment f fear
    * hpe: calm dwn, still alive, bright daylight, safe
    4 Read Timmy’s stry alud. Ask Ss t listen carefully.
    5 Check general understanding f the different paragraphs by asking sme ‘ wh-‘ questins.
