    Teaching prcedures:
    Step 1 Lead-in and Warm Up
    T aruse the students’ interest and lead in the tpic, the teacher can rganize sme activities.
    1. Get the students t discuss hw many cuntries use English as their native language and whether they speak the same English.
    They may speak ut America, Britain, Canada, Australia. Teacher writes American, British, Canadian, and Australian n the blackbard. Then add English t these wrds and ask them whether they are the same.
    2. Get the students t discuss in grups abut the differences between British English and American English, and give sme examples.
    3. Ask the students t read the passage in Warming Up and then guess which f the fllwing wrds is British English and which is American English:
    apartment/flat bathrm/tilet candy/sweet elevatr/lift fall/autumn game/match mad/angry mail/pst mm/mum mvie/film pants/trusers repair/mend sick/ill ckie/biscuit crazy/mad gas/petrl
    Step 2 Pre-reading
    Get the students first t discuss the tw questins with their partners and then answer them.

    Ask the Ss t read the passage carefully paragraph by paragraph t get sme detail infrmatin.

    While checking the answers with the whle class, deal with any language prblems t see whether the students can guess the meanings f new vcabulary such as vyage, base, make use f, a number f, etc.

    English is a language spken all ver the wrld. But at first the English spken in England between abut AD450 and 1150 was very different frm the English spken tday. It was mre based n German than the English we speak nw, later English became less like German because new settlers enriched the English language and Its vcabulary. S by the 1600s Shakespeare was able t make use f a wider vcabulary than ever befre. Finally by the 19th century the language was settled because dictinaries were written. Nw, English is als spken as a freign r secnd language in Suth Asia.
