When I was studying abrad in Australia, I traveled extensively (广泛地) all ver the cuntry with tw friends. We bked everything frm whale watching t a private flight ver Munt Ksciuszk, and racked up (累积) sme impressive credit card bills. Anther internatinal student almst lked dwn her nse at ur pricey adventures, declaring that she had cme t Australia t study, nt t empty her saving accunt n travel.
My questin t her came. Why wuld yu cme literally halfway arund the wrld t save yur mney and keep yur nse pressed int a bk every weekend? Wuld yu g t China and nt visit the Great Wall because it csts mney? Wuld yu g t Italy and skip visiting the Vatican because it requires an admissin ticket?
I knw where I wuld like my life t g in the cming mnths and years. But there are n guarantees that things will g as planned. In fact, nthing will g as planned.
“Oh, I’ll travel when 1 retire.” “I’ll travel when the kids are grwn.” “I’ll travel when the huse is paid ff.” Hw ften d we hear thers say these? I hear these excuses all the time. In Dallas, Texas, a cmpany called Green Habitat Hydrpnics (GHH) sells vertical farming (垂直农业) supplies. “Yu can cntrl anything and everything yu want t with hydrpnics—the prcess f grwing plants in sand, small stnes r water with added nutrients (营养物) but nt sil,” Kris Maxwell, a sales emplyee at GHH said. “Fr example, certain plants need certain nutrients and PH levels. But dn’t wrry. Yu can change the hydrpnics slutins (溶液) by adding r taking away nutrients, r by changing the PH level, r even by cntrlling the amunt f water in a slutin, s that plants get all the nutrients and water requirements they need. There are even different slutins fr certain stages in the plants’ grwth.”
In this indr envirnment, LED lights, which are envirnmentally friendly, replace the sun. Heaters, clers, and special machines cntrl the temperature and humidity. Up t 300 plants can grw in ne cntainer unit.

What’s mre frightening is happening. A grwing educatin arms race is ging amng families. They feel pressured t make sure their kids learn enugh t be abve their grade level and ranked at r near the tp f their classes. Many parents tld me they keep their children in after-schl educatin simply t keep up with thse wh d. Tutring educatin is seriusly changing what it means t g t schl.
