I earned my graduate degree in the UK and planned to live there. But things didn’t go to plan. I found a great job in America, teaching drama. Years passed and I still hadn’t made it back to Europe. I did, however, find myself working at a university. This is when China knocked on my door.
The university encouraged us to attend classes as part of our professional development. They offered two foreign language choices: Chinese and Japanese. For I liked Chinese food a little more. I decided to take the course. Two terms in, and I was hooked! I co-founded the Chinese Culture Club at school. We attended the Spring Festival celebration hosted by our local Chinese community centre. I learned to make baozi and tried out my fledgling language skills at the local Chinese restaurant.
The club decided on a foster(寄养) home that supported orphans(孤儿). It helped me make a decision to visit China. After all, if I’m going to learn a language, I might as well go to the country itself! So I made arrangements with the foster home to volunteer in exchange for lodgings. My stay would be three weeks.
A year of language learning did not prepare me for the culture. Firstly, dirt roads, stray dogs, limited indoor heating and the language problem made me very worried. Luckily, the people there helped me work through the change from America to China.
Once the initial shock wore off, I was completely charmed. The food was amazing, the people were friendly and curious, and the children were cute. My Chinese was pushed to its limit. I used my weekends to take in everything from the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. I also took a trip to the Shaolin Temple in Henan province.
And, just as I was getting comfortable, it was time to go home. I knew before I left that I would return, not just for a visit, but to live.
Ten long years later, a chance came itself. I left everything except 16-year-old cat, Darcy, and we are now happily two years into our new lives in Beijing.
It took me a decade to move to China. And it was worth the wait.
    34. When did China knock on the writer’s door?
    A. While studying in the UK B. After earning his graduate degree
    C. While working at a university D. After going back to Europe
    35. What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence “I was hooked!” in Paragraph 2?
    A. I was fond of going fishing! B. I was crazy about Chinese food!
    C. I was tired of learning Chinese! D. I was more interested in China!
    36. According to the passage, we can know ________.
    A. the writer came to China to support orphans
    B. the writer was used to the life in China at first
    C. the writer stayed in Beijing for three weeks
    D. the writer now is living in China with her cat
    37. By the sentence “It was worth the wait.”, the writer wants to _______.
    A. complain the time she waited B. praise the delicious Chinese food.
    C. tell us the period of learning Chinese. D. show us how she loves China.

In the last century, a series of missions have been carried out to explore the moon.Among them, NASA’s Apollo 11 mission succeeded in landing the first humans on the moon on July 20, 1969.
Years later, NASA announced its Artemis program. Named after the Greek goddess, the program will send humans to the moon by the year 2024. And this time, the moon will welcome its first female astronaut. Up til now, only 12 people, all male, have ever walked on the moon. “The last person walked on the Moon in 1972,” Bettina, NASA communication director said, “No woman has walked on the lunar surface.”
But the Artemis program will change this.
Women have been involved in space projects and made valuable contributions. In 1963, astronaut Tereshkova from the Soviet Union(苏联) became the first woman to enter space.
However, the progress toward women’s access to space programs has been slow. Astronauts had to be test pilots with a certain amount of experience. This was a problem as the field was controlled by males at the time. In fact, the gender bias(性别歧视) seemed to exist(存在) in the early space programs. The New York Times reported.
In 1962, NASA wrote to a little girl who wanted to be an astronaut. The letter said, “We have no present plans to employ women on spaceflights because of the degree of scientific and flight training, and the physical characteristics, which are required.”
Women have indeed made progress in this particular area, and have advantages over their male workmates. Women tend to be smaller, which means they use less oxygen and take up less space in small spacecraft. Also, women usually have greater emotional awareness and communication skills that make them better-suited to long spaceflights.
Despite challenges, women have shown that they are more than capable of joining that excellent group of men who have gone to to the moon. And this will truly be a remarkable moment in history.
38.What is special about the Artemis program?
    A. It is named after the American goddess.
    B. It will take the first female astronaut to the moon.
    C. The spacecraft will stay on the moon for longer time.
    D. Twelve astronauts will join the program by the year 2024.
39.According to the passage, what advantages do female astronauts have?
①Using less oxygen in space ②Taking up less space in spacecraft
③Having better physical characteristics ④Having better communication skills
    A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④
40.From NASA’s letter to the little girl, we can know that _______.
    A. the gender bias existed in the early space programs
B.women were not suitable for the hard flight training
    C. the little girl was too young to join the space programs
    D. NAS planned to employ women astronauts in the future
41.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?
    A. The first female astronaut B.The gender bias in space programs
C.The new NASA missions D.The contributions women make for space
    D
If you see someone faint(晕倒), perhaps as a result of a heart attack, what can you do while you wait for the doctors?
Chen Qiaochu set a good example when he was 14. He performed CPR on a cleaner at his school, saving the man’s life in 2018. Chen showed that knowing how to perform CPR can be very important. According to medical experts, there is a “golden period”, the first four minutes of a heart attack, when CPR is most effective in saving the person’s life.
In 2020, the Ministry of Education(教育部) asked all public schools to provide the first-aid(急救) courses including CPR as part of health education. CPR is not hard to learn. However, only less than 1% of Chinese adults have mastered it, while many have never heard of it.
A 2019 survey noted that although 64.6% of schools have opened health education courses, the teaching results are not satisfactory.
Zhao Sheng, a graduate from a Shandong high school, talked about her first CPR training in class. “No modelm, video or practice was included. I realized the acts I had been taught had lots of errors after I was trained another time in a middle school,” She said.
Ding Han, a doctor from Guangdong, is a strong supporter for bringing first-aid knowledge into the classroom. “The first-aid course in schools is key for its popularization(普及).” said Ding.
Many countries have worked hard for the popularization of first-aid training, including CPR. In the USA, policemen, firefighters and school teachers must receive CPR training. And a 2017 survey showed that 65 percent of Americans had received CPR training. In Switzerland, all citizens are asked to be trained in first aid, including CPR. In Germany, every citizen must be trained before getting their driver’s license, which means about 80 percent of the country has received first-aid training. Forty percent of people in France are also trained in first aid.
Just as an old Chinese saying goes, “Stones from other hills may serve to polish the jade of this one(它山之石可以攻玉).”__________.
    42. What’s the purpose of Paragraph 2?
    A. To introduce a good method to cure heart attack
    B. To show the importance and effect of CPR
    C. To give some advice on performing CPR
    D. To show the bad result of a heart attack
    43. What can we learn from Zhao Sheng’s words?
    A. It’s hard for students to learn to perform CPR
    B. Students should receive training in medical schools
    C. Middle school students should be trained several times
    D. The quality of the first-aid courses in schools should be improved
    44. Which of the following can best describe the first-aid training in China?
    A. Perfect. B. Wonderful. C. Unsatisfactory D. Hopeless.
    45. Which of the following may be written in the ______ part?
    A. The action China will take in first-aid popularization
    B. The other first-aid courses which are taken in China
    C. The latest introduction about the adventures of CPR
D.The experience of CPR training from more schools
