While new phnes are advertised as “water resistant(防水)”, this desn't mean they are waterprf, r ttally immune t water. Water resistance just implies the device can handle sme expsure t water befre substantial damage ccurs.
The water resistance f phnes is rated by an “ingress(进入) prtectin” cde, cmmnly called an IP rating. The rating includes tw numbers. The first demnstrates prtectin against slids such as dust, while the secnd indicates resistance t liquids, specifically water. A phne that has a rating f IP68 has a slid bject prtectin f 6 (full prtectin frm dust, dirt and sand) and a liquid prtectin f 8 (prtected frm immersin in water t a depth f mre than ne metre).
The ppular iPhne 12 and Samsung Galaxy S2l phnes bth have a rating f IP68. Hwever, regarding expsure t water, the iPhne 12 has a permissible immersin depth f a maximum f 6m fr 30 minutes while the Galaxy 21's immersin limit is up t l.5m, als fr 30 minutes.
While IP ratings indicate the water-resistant nature f phnes, taking mst phnes fr a swim will land yu in deep truble. The salt cntent in ceans and swimming pls can crrde(腐蚀) ur device and cst yu a heavy replacement.
Then hw t fix a water-lgged phne? Fllw these steps: First, turn ff the device immediately and dn't press any buttns. Then wipe the phne dry with paper twels r a sft clth and gently shake the device t remve water frm the charging prts. Next, remve the SIM card and dry ut the phne in frnt f a fan. D nt charge the phne until yu are certain it's dry.
If the abve steps dn't help and yu're still stuck with a seemingly dead device, dn't try pening the phne yurself. Yu’re better ff taking it t a prfessinal.
    24. What can yu infer frm Para.2?
    A. The rating is made up f several numbers.
    B. The water resistance f phnes is evaluated by an IP rating.
    C. The first IP rating number indicates resistance t liquids.
    D. A phne with a rating f IP68 has a slid prtectin f 8.

    B. We shuld switch it ff and dn't use it.

Bstn wants t be smarter. The city has taken advantage f technlgies t becme mre respnsive t its residents’ needs. But technlgy alne is nt sufficient t make tday's cities live-able. Bstn has discvered that it als needs t reach the ld-fashined lw-tech cmmunity and integrate that technlgy with city life.
Kris Carter rlled ut Bstn's smart city prgram in 2014. It started with an app that residents culd dwnlad t reprt lcatins where sidewalks needed repair. The city srted ut thse reprts and ranked them in a database, which repair crews used t priritize their wrk.
The system wrked beautifully, except fr ne prblem: mst f the alerts(警报) came frm wealthier neighbrhds, where the cncentratin f smartphne-equipped residents was highest. “The cmplaints frm the app didn't always crrelate with the greatest cmmunity need fr re-pairs,” explains Carter.
Carter's grup has mved away frm the mdel cmmn t many smart city initiatives f letting tech-savvy(精通技术的) residents drive the prcess, Instead, they run meetings t find ut what prblems peple in different neighbrhds care abut. When it came t sidewalks, Bstn intrduced a secnd methd f cllecting repair tips, hiring peple t get ut and walk the city's 1, 700 miles f sidewalks t take ntes f their cnditin.
“Whether using lw-tech r high-tech appraches,” says Carter, “t stay smart, a city needs t cntinually reassess its ptins t spt pprtunities t imprve residents’ lives. Take the side-walk repair prgram fr example. Walking n the streets was prved a useful, if inefficient way t priritize repair needs.” But last year the grup fund that walkers’ mbile phnes culd be tracked as they mved alng the streets, and that data culd be analyzed t identify sidewalk rutes which are mst ften used by neighbrhds.
“Cmbined with ur ther sidewalk infrmatin, that gave us an even better way t predict where faster repairs wuld d the mst gd,” says Carter. “We’re really always lking fr whatever mix f appraches best slves the prblem.”
    28. What is the first paragraph mainly abut?
    A. The citizens’ life.B. The city's reputatin.
    C. The city's management.D. The benefits f technlgy.

    30. Which f the fllwing might Kris Carter mst agree with?

The idea f turning recycled plastic bttles int clthing is nt new. During the last five years, a large number f clthing cmpanies, businesses and envirnmental rganizatins have started turning plastics int fabric t deal with plastic pllutin. But there's a prblem with this methd. Research nw shws that micrfibers culd be the biggest surce f plastic in the sea.
Dr. Mark Brwne in Santa Barbara, Califrnia, has been studying plastic pllutin and micr-fibers fr 10 years nw. He explains that every time synthetic (合成的) clthes g int a washing machine, a large number f plastic fibers fall ff. Mst washing machines can't cllect these micrfibers. S every time the water gets ut f a washing machine, micrfibers are entering the sewers and finally end up in the sea.
In 2011, Brwne wrte a paper stating that a single piece f synthetic clthing can prduce mre than l, 900 fibers per wash. Brwne cllected samples frm seawater and freshwater sites arund the wrld, and used a special way t examine each sample. He discvered that every single water sample cntained micrfibers.
This is bad news fr a number f reasns. Plastic can cause harm t sea life when eaten. Studies have als shwn that plastic can absrb ther pllutants.
Based n this evidence, it may seem surprising that cmpanies and rganizatins have chsen t turn plastic waste int clthing as an envirnmental “slutin”. Even thugh the science has been arund fr a while, Brwne explains that he's had a difficult time getting cmpanies t listen. When he asked well-knwn clthing cmpanies t supprt Benign by Design—his research prject that seeks t get clthes that have a bad effect n humans and the envirnment ut f the market, Brwne didn't get a satisfying answer. Only ne wmen's clthing cmpany, Eileen Fisher, ffered Brwne funding.
    32. What has happened during the past five years?
    A. Fabric has becme much strnger.B. Plastic pllutin has been less serius.
    C. Micrfibers have been greatly imprved. D. Many plastic bttles have been reused.
    33. What des Brwne think f washing synthetic clthes?
    A. It is wrsening envirnmental prblems. B. It is adding micrfibers t the clthes.
    C. It is making synthetic clthes last lnger. D. It is ding great damage t washing machines.
    34. What can be inferred abut Brwne's Benign by Design research prject?
    A. It has achieved great success.B. It hasn't gt anything dne.
    C. It is facing sme difficulties.D. It is knwn t very few peple.
    35. Where is the text mst likely frm?
    A. A nvel.B. A magazine.C. A diary.D. A guidebk.

Yu can play almst every sprt yu can imagine there, and there are health classes like yga and grup dance every day except Wednesday. The best part abut the gym is the cst: students pay a yearly fee f $ 50, and they get t use the facilities as much as they want. All right, we’re cming up t the stadium nw...
