But here's the surprise: Despite the assumptin that mst gssip is trash talk, the study finds that the vast majrity f gssip is nnjudgmental chitchat.
"Peple lve t talk abut ther peple," says Jeremy Cne, a psychlgist at Williams Cllege. "Think abut yur wn cnversatins with a family member r friend: Yu talk abut everyday things that keep yu cnnected. And, f curse, the study als finds that sme gssip is negative r mean-spirited. Abut 15% f the snippets f gssip that the researchers analyzed included sme types f negative judgements.
But even negative gssip can serve a purpse, as mre research has fund.
"I think gssiping can be a smart thing t d," says Elena Martinescu, a researcher at King's Cllege Lndn wh has studied gssip in the wrkplace. "It allws peple t keep track f what's ging n and frm scial alliances with ther peple."
Research has shwn that gssip can help build grup chesin and cperatin. "When yu gssip, yu can keep track f wh is cntributing t the grup and wh's being selfish," Martinescu explains. "And by sharing this infrmatin, yu can exclude thse grup members wh are scial lafers."
"We als fund that negative gssip makes peple likely t repair the aspects f their behavir that they were criticized fr," Martinescu says.

Leather made frm fungi (菌类) is a relatively new innvatin. The little mushrms that we see pp ut f the grund are nly a small part f any given fungus. Under the grund is an ften sprawling web f branching, threaded grwths knwn cllectively as the mycelium. It is frm this mycelium structure that leather can be prduced.
Bismarck and clleagues suggest advances in making prcesses have resulted in fungi-derived leather being able t nw meet the "functinal and aesthetic (审美的) expectatins f cnsumers". They think fungi-derived leather vercmes the ethical (伦理的) issues facing animal leather and the envirnmental issues facing synthetic leathers.
