Over the past 18 years, Meng Fanduo, from Changchun, Jilin province, has spent most of his spare time volunteering — helping poor families, caring for left-behind children and sending books to poor villages.
Meng, 40, started working for a company in 2000 after completing his three-year military service (兵役) . “When I was in the military, my father sent me the book Lei Feng’s Diary and asked me to be an honest man,” he said. “Deeply touched by the spirit of Lei Feng, I keep the faith through volunteer work.”
Since 2003, Meng has joined many volunteer organizations in the city and he actively took part in many activities they organized. “I felt quite warm and happy as I gave a helping hand to those in need, especially when I saw the thanks from the eyes of them,” he said. “I will never stop helping others.”
At the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic (疫情) broke out. Meng searched for protective equipment (防护设备) and donated items which cost around 100,000 yuan to those who were in the front line in the fight against COVID-19, such as nurses and doctors.
Meng also received great support from his family members. “My wife is also a military officer, and she understands me,” he said. “Sometimes when I volunteered I took my daughter and son with me, hoping that they could learn to help people.”
“In the future, I will organize more forms of volunteer activities with other volunteers. I hope to encourage (鼓励) more people to join us helping more people and families in need,” he said.

First, find fun ways to exercise. It’s worth trying because it’s easy for you to keep on while you’re doing something enjoyable. In this way, you will think it is a hobby instead of a kind of exercise. Second, I advise you to ask some of your friends to take exercise together. I choose to exercise with my cousin. We encourage each other. I can hardly imagine how I could continue without him. Lastly, how about posting some photos of exercising on WeChat Moments? Others will give you a like. When seeing words of praise from others, you will be full of energy. Don’t lose heart. I believe you can keep fit in many ways.
Hope these suggestions are really helpful to you.
