1. What d yu knw abut Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King?
(1) Draw students’ attentin t the title f the lessn and ask what it means, i.e., a persn that manages t bring a significant change in the lives f many peple.
(2) Allw students t wrk individually r in pairs if they are struggling t cmplete the task.
(3) Read the sentences. Explain any difficult wrds. Pint ut that sme facts may be cmmn fr bth Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King.
(4) Students write G fr Gandhi and K fr King next t the sentences that match them.
(5) Review the answers as a class.
2. Listen, add years and rder.
(1) Read the Skill Builder bx. Sequencing skill is imprtant when listening t facts abut a persn r stry. Read alud the events. Explain any unknwn wrds.
(2) Play the discussin nce and have students listen fr understanding. They can make ntes n the events.
(3) Advise students t add the year fr each event first as this will help them t rder the events.
(4) Play the discussin a secnd time and have students wrk n their wn t cmplete the task. Have students review their answers in pairs r as a class.
3. Listen again and cmplete.
(1) Explain t students that they will listen t the discussin fr further details.
(2) Review the sentence frames with students and then ask them t take ntes as they listen.
(3) Check answers as a class. If needed, replay the discussin.
4. Pair Wrk: Talk abut what Martin Luther King did in the fllwing years.
(1) In pairs students nte dwn what infrmatin they recall abut the events in the years.
(2) Play a quiz game and award a pint t each pair fr giving a crrect answer. Review answers as a class this way.
5. Listen and discuss.
(1) Read the questins alud and play the discussin fr general understanding.

(2) Invite vlunteers t answer the questin.
6. Listen again and decide.
(1) Read the sentences. Explain hw certainty and uncertainty can be expressed. Pint ut that students need t be careful wh the sentence is abut, as bth f the speakers express their pinins n sme pints.
(2) Play the discussin nce and if necessary, play it again. Students cmplete the exercise.
(3) Review answers in pairs r as a class.
(4) Challenge students t nte dwn the expressin each speaker uses t express their pinin and share their answers with the class, i.e., there’s n dubt; mmm, I’m nt sure abut …
7. Listen, imitate and cmplete the Talk Builder.
(1) Read the sentence frames.
(2) Encurage students t wrk in pairs and cmplete the sentences frm memry.
(3) Play the discussin fr students t check their answers and cmplete any blank spaces.
(4) Review the answers as a class.
8. Present a histry maker fr China.
(1) Prvide students with the resurces t research a histry maker, either bks frm the library r nline tls r this activity culd be set as hmewrk.
(2) Ask students t share with the class an example f a histry maker and their reasns fr chsing this persn.
(3) Students gather infrmatin abut their chsen histry maker using the fllwing titles as a guideline: Backgrund, What did he/she d, and What did he/she achieve. Encurage students t use their wn wrds and the vcabulary that has been explred in this unit.
(4) Students make a shrt presentatin abut this persn t the class.
