On June 10,at 8 pm,more than a hundred people were gathered in a tent in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. They were there to play video games. But they wouldn’t be playing on any ordinary gaming system.Instead, they were prepared to play games that would be displayed on a glass skyscraper called the Cira Centre.
“There was really a great energy in the tent that night,” Ainsley Soulchin,13,said.She participated in Skyscraper Video Games for Kids.It is a programme that teaches middle school students to code(编程) video games.
In the programme,Ainsley coded a game. She calls the game Dot Man.In Dot Man,a player has to pass through a maze (迷宫) without getting caught by a dot.On June 10,the public got to play Dot Man and other studentmade video games on the outside of the Cira Centre.Ainsley was proud of her accomplishment.“When you see your game on the building,” she said,“you’re like ‘Wow,I made this.’.”
Frank Lee founded Skyscraper Video Games for Kids. He’s a professor of digital media at Drexel University,in Philadelphia. He wanted to involve others in the joy of playing video games. So he found a way to make that happen.
“Years ago,I was driving past the Cira Centre,” Lee said.“I thought,‘Wouldn’t it be cool to make a game out of that building?’” He noticed there were LED lights fixed between the skyscraper’s floors.Lee knew if he could access the building’s computer system,he could control the LED lights. This would allow him to display video games on the skyscraper.People could play these games using a joystick (游戏杆).The joystick would be connected to a computer outside the building. And the computer would send wireless commands to the skyscraper’s internal system.
Now Lee shares his passion for game design with kids. With funding from Intel,he trains educators to create video games. The educators then teach their students those same skills.

Nail biting and hair pulling are two forms of body language. Both nail biting and hair pulling can be either conscious or subconscious body language gestures, each showing some interesting aspects of the character, emotion and inner working of the individual.
Nail biting is a nonverbal gesture. In adults it’s often a habit adopted and carried through from childhood and can become apparent in stressful situations throughout adulthood. To most people, nail biting is associated with nervousness and shyness and is an involuntary response to certain social situations. In many cases,it’s an adaptor behaviour that channels nervous energy, inactivity or boredom and doesn’t disturb normal functioning. In severe cases nail biting can become a repetitive behaviour that is intentionally performed. It can result in great physical damage.
So when we look deeper,in both adults and children,it has been suggested that severe nail biting is often referred to as a method of “selfheating”.This indicates that nail biting is a subconscious behaviour indicating increased anxiety and low selfconfidence.
Hair pulling can indicate a number of emotions and behaviours. For example, children who bite their nails or frequently pull their hair may be nervous or have low selfconfidence.Hair pulling may be a comforting action for a child who is tense and anxious, and may become habitual later in life in stressful situations.Routine and severe hair pulling can be a compulsive disorder that may be linked to genetics, anxiety and depression. It’s most commonly thought to be a stressrelated condition.
However, hair pulling is also another nonverbal body language that can signify different things in different situations. For example,in some situations,it can mean interest and desire. However,in other situations,it can suggest anxiety, incompetence, uncertainty or shyness.

As humanity has got richer, animal’s roles have changed.People need their services less than before.Fewer wolves and thieves meant less demand for dogs for protection; the internal combustion engine(内燃机)made horses unneeded; modern sanitation(卫生设备)kept rats in check and made cats less useful. No longer necessities, domestic animals became luxuries.Petkeeping seems to kick in when household incomes rise above roughly $5,000.It is booming.
The trend is not a new one.Archaeologists(考古学家) have found 10,000yearold graves in which dogs and people are buried together. Some cultures—such as in Scandinavia, where dogs have long been both working dogs and companions—have kept pets for thousands of years. But these days the petkeeping urge has spread even to parts of the world which have no tradition of sinking into a comfortable chair with a furry creature.
The pet business is growing even faster than pet numbers, because people are spending more and more money on them.No longer are they foodwasterecyclers, fed with the remains that fall from their masters’ tables.Petfood shelves are full of delicacies crafted to satisfy a range of appetites, including ice cream for dogs and foods for pets that are old, diabetic or suffer from sensitive digestion; a number of Internet services offer food, tailored to the pet’s individual tastes.
In the business this is called “pet humanisation”—the tendency of pet owners to treat their pets as part of the family. This is evident in the names given to dogs, which have evolved from Fido,Rex and Spot to—in America—Bella,Lucy and Max.It is evident in the growing market for pet clothing, pet grooming and pet hotels.
People still assume that pets must be working for humanity in some way, perhaps making people healthier or less anxious. But the evidence for that is weak.Rather, new research suggests that dogs have evolved those irresistible “puppydog eyes” precisely to affect human emotions. It has worked. The species that once enslaved others now works very hard to pay for the care of its pets.Sentimental(多愁善感的)Americans often refer to themselves not as catowners but as the cat’s “mommy” or “daddy”.South Koreans go one further, describing themselves as cat “butlers”.Watch an unlucky dogwalker trailing “his” hound(猎犬),plastic bag in hand to pick up its mess, and you have to wonder:who’s in charge now?

    61.答案 an
分析句子可知,此处为句型have trouble (in) doing sth.
get settled安顿好。

    68.答案 where
分析句子可知,her daughter was waiting作定语修饰先行词the gate,关系词在从句中作地点状语,故用关系副词where。
    69.答案 as
see sb.as“把某人视作”,故用介词as。
    70.答案 to connect
本句为take time to do sth.“花时间做某事”,故用不定式to connect。
