I began my career in human resources and have changed my job several times. Now I work as a mobility consultant(安置顾问) in the relocation industry and have 11 years of experience in this position. My primary responsibility is to manage the relocation of corporate employees. I oversee the entire move process from the household goods shipment to home purchase at destination. The position of relocation consulting is the perfect fit for me, as it calls on my communication skills and longing to help people during a stressful time.
I learned in a hard way that we shouldn't take anything personally. Since transferees(被调任者)are under a great deal of stress. there are times when they vent(发泄)their frustration on the consultant who is leading the relocation events. Once a customer was so upset and she actually brought me to tears. Since then, I have learned how to be understanding without taking the anxiety and tension of the transferee.
The most important lesson I learned about being in the workforce is that, although it may take several job changes before a position or company feels right, every work experience is an opportunity to grow. Each job, even the ones where I was not successful, provided me with a new skill set, professional contacts and a clearer awareness of my strengths and weaknesses.
What motivates me to get up and go to work each day can best be illustrated by one situation that made me very proud. I had been assigned a very demanding high-level customer for a new client. It took an enormous amount of time and energy to meet his demands. I was pleasantly surprised when I received his customer service evaluation after the move was completed. Not only were the ratings high, but he commented that knowing I had things under control made a big difference in the quality of his life.
24. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1?
A. He lacks communication skills. B. He is suitable for his present job.
C. He is having a stressful time in his life. D. He worked in human resources for 11 years.
25. What's the author's attitude toward the transferees?
A. Regretful. B. Worried. C. Admiring. D. Understanding.
26. What does the author think of his previous jobs?
A. They were well-paid. B. They were uninteresting.
C. They were time consuming. D. They were all rewarding.
27. Where does the author's motivation for his job come from?
A. Customer satisfaction. B. Pride of his own company.
C. Best use of his time and energy. D. Positive comments from the boss.
C
If your marketing looks like the stuff you might have done in the 1980's, it is probably ineffective. Trade shows, print ads, and boring brochures just aren't going to help you succeed.
You need someone to he assigned the responsibility of Chief Listening Officer(CLO). Their job is to listen and help the company understand where their community has a problem. With this information, the CLO can bring back to their company important lessons for what the real pain points are. When you help your customers with their needs, then you are in the marketing business.
If you base your marketing on listening, then your marketing will be:
UNIQUE-Your marketing activity should be something your competitors isn't doing. You have to find a way to help your clients that distinguishes you from all others. A good example is teaching and educating people on how to make coffee properly like Counter Culture Coffee.
ADDING VALUE-Can your marketing effort give something of value to customers on an emotional level? Maybe it understands the charities they are passionate about, or it's a way to bring something fun and unexpected. Adding value means you are putting marketing dollars closer to the customer and if possible, not through media.
BRAND RELEVANT-The activities should always be relevant and distinctive, but they must also fit with your brand's mission. If you are a hospital trying to help connect a community, maybe you can offer a free app that teaches people how to connect a car seat for a newborn. Listening should inspire your organization to understand needs from the community you serve.
I haven't met too many Chief Listening Officers at companies, but I bet they will start popping up across the corporate landscape. You may need to stop talking to find them. They are the quiet people doing the observing.
28. What is the job of a Chief Listening Officer?
A. Organize interactive activities.
B. Provide timely help for needy customers.
C. Find out the real pain points of the community.
D. Listen to marketing plans and point out their problems.
29. What might the author agree with?
A. Marketing is impossible without media.
B. Old marketing approaches won't work well today.
C. Effective marketing should focus on profit first.
D. Customers should be involved in marketing.
30. How does the author explain the benefits of listening-based marketing?
A. By giving examples. B. By listing contrary facts.
C. By analyzing sales figures. D. By comparing different views.
31. What conclusion can be drawn from the text?
A. A CLO is responsible for product promotion.
B. Listening-based marketing has a variety of rules.
C. CLO is likely to he a hot position in the future.
D. Listening-based marketing is costly but effective.
D
Ozone(臭氧)levels in the earth's atmosphere can now be forecasted with accuracy up to two weeks in advance, a remarkable improvement over current systems that can accurately predict ozone levels only three days ahead. The new artificial intelligence system developed in the University of Houston could lead to improved ways to control ozone problems and contribute to solutions for climate change issues.
Ozone is helpful in the right place and amount. It protects us by stopping UV radiation from the sun. But when there is too much ozone near earth's surface, it is harmful to lungs and hearts.
Conventional forecasting uses a numerical model, whose limitations were obvious to Choi, a UH professor, and his team. The numerical process is time consuming, expensive, and accuracy is limited.
In the new research, the team used a unique loss function in developing the machine learning algorithm(算法). Researchers used index of agreement, known as IOA, as the loss function for the AI model. IOA is a mathematical comparison of gaps between what is expected and how things actually turn out. In other words, team members added historical ozone data to the trials and enabled the computer to accurately predict outcomes of real-life ozone conditions.
Think about a young boy who sees a cup of hot tea on a table and tries to touch it out of curiosity. The moment the child touches the cup, he realizes it is hot and shouldn't be touched directly. Through that experience, the child has trained his mind not to touch a hot tea cup in a hurry. It is the same with AI. You provide input, the computer gives you output. Over many repetitions and corrections, the process is more accurate over time, and the AI program comes to "know" how to react to conditions that have been presented.
32. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A. To show the progress of science. B. To warn people of the ozone layer.
C. To demonstrate the great power of AI. D. To introduce the result of a research.
33. What is a limitation of the previous ozone predicting system?
A. It's slow. B. It's unsteady. C. It's unpractical. D. It's hard to operate.
34. Why is a young boy mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. To warn us not to be curious about the ozone layer.
B. To help us understand the machine learning process.
C. To give us an example of how artificial intelligence works.
D. To show us how to train a child to think twice before acting.
35. What is the best title of the text?
A. Great Progress in AI Helps Stop UV Radiation from the Sun
B. Machine Learning Enables AI to Control Ozone Levels
C. AI Breakthrough Gives Longer Advance Warning of Ozone Issues
D. Researchers Analyze Historical Ozone Data to Develop an Algorithm

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The gray sky outside my kitchen window looked like how I felt inside. Hopeless. I sighed and turned away. Life had lost all meaning.
Nearly a year earlier, on a sunny day, I drove to a nearby lake to celebrate my birthday with friends and family. After a long workweek, I was looking forward to our picnic. And I couldn't wait to get in the water. I loved to swim.
"Here I go," I shouted, laughing, as I dove headfirst from a boat into the lake. That was the last thing I remember. I was pulled unconscious from the water with a broken backbone, paralyzed(瘫痪)from the waist down.
After months of hospitalization, I was finally home. But things weren't going well. I had to adjust to many lifestyle changes. I was impatient with myself as well as my three teenage daughters.
A few days later。I poured out my bad feelings to Jerry, a good friend and neighbor who came to visit in my front yard. "I don't feel like I have a reason to get out of bed," I told him.
Jerry was quiet. His eyes were focused on my mulberry tree. "Look," he whispered. "There's a male cardinal(雄红雀)on that lower branch to the right."
I saw the bird with its long tail, black mask and bright red outfit, a dashing crest on his head.
"They like to nest in thick bushes," Jerry said, "and mostly eat seeds. They dine regularly at bird feeders, especially in the winter."
Cheer, cheer, cheer, the cardinal sang in a sweet voice. I'd seen cardinals before. Now as I studied this one, I realized I'd never really seen a cardinal. He was wonderful. Cheer, cheer, cheer, he sang again before flying up into the sky.
On his next visit, Jerry brought along his field guide. In it, he'd written the date and location next to every bird he'd seen since 1991.I was attracted by the entries. I couldn't believe how many different birds he'd observed right here in our neighborhood! Nashville warblers, American goldfinches, thrashers and many others. As I leafed through his guidebook, I knew I wanted not only to watch birds but also to know birds, to understand them.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答
Living with paraplegia(截瘫)required incredible patience and a strong will, and I was determined to apply these qualities to birdwatching.
When I showed Jerry the pictures in my field guide, he was impressect with my progress.
