2. When I was 5 years ld, I started lsing weight. My parents nticed I was pale and always thirsty. They had me tested t see if my bld sugar was high because they thught that might be causing my symptms.

I have been a Girl Scut since kindergarten. Fr a Girl Scut prject, I put tgether a team t g t Guatemala t test peple there fr diabetes. We went fr fur days last July. We tested 378 children and 100 adults. We fund three adults with a different kind f diabetes, called type 2. We als fund ne little girl with dangerusly lw bld sugar. She cried when we tld her. She had been feeling dizzy and didn't knw why. It was like replaying what happened t me when I was little. I talked thrugh a translatr, but everyne understd hugs. I gave mre hugs than I've ever given.
Having type 1 diabetes is hard. But I have accepted it readily. It has helped me meet amazing peple. It has made me respnsible and independent. It has als shwn me the pwer f taking actin.
