A study published in the jurnal Science prvides a glimmer(一丝) f hpe fr a regin affected by climate change. In recent years, several studies have warned the ice sheet, which cntributes t a quarter f melted ice wrldwide annually, is very easy t break up. Scientists fear even slightly melting culd cause glbal sea levels t rise by 3 meters.
Researchers at the Technical University f Denmark set ut t answer hw the bedrck underneath the ice sheet f West Antarctica behaves as the ice melts. T study the land, the team analyzed data cllected by high-precisin GPS equipment psitined n remte rck frmatins in West Antarctica, which measured mvements f the land dwn t the millimeter ver a 10-year perid. “After a heric effrt t install and maintain the netwrk f sensrs in ne f the least accessible places n the planet, the team has been rewarded with incredibly valuable data, which tell an incredible stry abut the Earth, ” wrte Valentina Barletta.
The team fund that the Earth was pushing the bedrck t rise faster than expected. In 2014, the surface rse by 41 millimeters: fur t five times quicker than predicted. In 100 years, the land culd be up t 10 meters higher than it is currently. It is hped that as the ice melts, the Earth’s crust(地壳) will bunce back much faster than previusly expected. In turn, this culd stabilize what the researchers described as the “catastrphic cllapse” f the ice sheet.
Barletta tld Newsweek the ice sheet will never be stable if glbal warming becmes t extreme. “Reducing the greenhuse gas will give the ice sheet a better chance f survival because that wuld allw sme knwn and unknwn feedback(反馈) t create better cnditins fr the ice, ” she said.

Climate change cmes t an end. 【解析】选A。 根据第一段的第一句“As ice melts in West Antarctica the grund beneath is quickly rising. . . ”可知, 下面的地面越来越高。
8. Why d scientists use high-precisin GPS equipment? A. T find ut whether the ice sheet is very easy t break up. B. T find ut the cnnectin f the bedrck and ice melting. C. T find ut what really affects the speed f ice melting. D. T find ut when West Antarctica will disappear ttally.

Their brains can be easily harmed.
4. 【解析】选D。根据空前的“But the effects cntinue t exist. ”可知, 此处应举例说明它的影响, 故D项(50万美国儿童被诊断出铅中毒)符合语境。5. 【解析】选C。根据空后的“And industrial use is n exceptin. . . ”可知, C项(所有国家都应该禁止涂料中含铅)符合语境。
