1. Warming up by discussing
Have yu ever written a speech? What is a speech?
Speech means an act f speaking frmally t a grup f listeners.

2. Reading and underlining
Read the letter and exercises again and underline all the useful expressins r cllcatins in the letter. Cpy them in yur ntebk after class as hmewrk.
3. Listening
Turn yur bks t page 31. We’ll listen t a stry abut a persn wh experienced the 1906 San Francisc earthquake. I’ll play the tape three times. First listen and try t get sme details that Exercises 1 and 2 requests. Secnd listen again and try t finish the exercises. Third listen and check yur answers.

Have yu ever read a newspaper stry? Nw turn n yur bks t page 31 and lk at Writing. Read the brief descriptin abut hw t write a newspaper stry. Cmpare a newspaper stry t a shrt stry and answer the fllwing questins.

2) What shuld a newspaper utline have? (a headline; a list f main ideas; a list f imprtant details)
3) Why a headline is needed? (It can tell the readers what the tpic is; it can als attract the readers’ attentin)
4) Hw can yu finish a newspaper stry? (First, yu shuld write a headline, then rganize yur main ideas int paragraphs, and then put sme details int each paragraph.)
