→Step 1 Revisin
1. Check the hmewrk exercises.
2. Translate the fllwing sentences, using attributive clauses.
1)她说她的父母不许她嫁给家境贫寒的人。
2)他们谈论了许多他们所记得的大学里的人和事。
3)正在那儿唱歌的女孩是我的妹妹。
4)这就是你上次参观的博物馆吗?
5)她正在写字用的那支钢笔是我的。
Ask five students t cme t the frnt and write their sentence n the blackbard. Then check the answers with the whle class.
Suggested answers:
1)She said her parents wuldn’t let her marry anyne whse family was pr.
2)They talked abut a lt f persns and things(that)they culd remember at cllege.
3)The girl wh/that is singing ver there is my yunger sister.
4)Is this museum the ne(that)yu visited last time?

→Step 2 Reading and writing
1. Read the letter n Page 30. In the blank at the beginning f the letter, write the last number f the year it is nw and in the blank near the end f the letter, use a wrd t say hw many years ag the earthquake happened.
2. Imagine yu are the student wh was invited t give a speech. Discuss with yur partner what pints yu shuld include in yu speech. Make a list f the pints yu think yu shuld include.
3. Read thrugh the pints given at the bttm f the Page 30 and cmpare them with yurs.
4. Fifteen minutes given, write a shrt speech.
While the students are writing their speech, the teacher walks arund the classrm and help students deal with any prblems that they may have.
Fifteen minutes later, ask sme students t make their speech, facing the whle class.

Gd mrning, everyne. My name is Wang Gang. First f all I wuld like t thank Mr Zhang Sha and the city f Tangshan fr the hnr f talking t yu. I wuld als like t thank each f yu fr cming here tday fr this special ccasin. I’m sure all f us are glad t see that s many peple wh were hurt in the quake r lst their hmes and businesses are here tday. We are als glad t see s many f the wrkers here wh helped during that terrible disaster. Everyne is s prud f all f yu. Did yu knw that sme f the survivrs helped thers befre they helped themselves? It’s true: many thusands f survivrs wrked hard t save thers and t make them feel mre cmfrtable. Sldiers wrked hur after hur, day after day, almst withut rest t help thse wh needed it. We are s thankful t them as well. Nw we see arund us a new city, but the spirit f its peple has always been strng. Hw lucky I feel t live in such a place and t see this beautiful new park where families can cme t enjy nature. This park als hnrs the survivrs f the quake and thse wh saved them. It hnrs the many thusands wh rebuilt ur city. We are indeed the “Brave City f China”. Thank yu.

Everyne knws that this park will be pened t hnr thse wh died in the terrible disaster n this day 31 years ag. We shuld say that all f yu are very lucky t have survived. But never can we frget thse wh helped yu d the rescue wrk. They dug ut thse wh had been trapped and buried the dead. Mst f the 10 000 miners wh had been trapped undergrund were rescued. They als helped build the new city. They built shelters fr survivrs whse hmes had been destryed. They built new hmes and ffices in nly seven years. The United Natins hnred them fr their quick wrk. While ding the rescue wrk and rebuilding the city f Tangshan, many wrkers and sldiers lst their lives. We shuld shw ur greatest hnr t them.
When I first arrived in the city yesterday, I came t understand why Tangshan was called “Brave City f China”. What yu have dne made the whle wrld surprised. Lk at the tall buildings and the beautiful envirnment. There is little trance f the terrible earthquake. Hw brave yu are! All the peple in the wrld shuld learn frm yu. I think yu shuld always be prud f the city.

Suggested answers:
1)Because an utline will prepare yu t write a better stry. It helps yu t chse a tpic, decide what yu what t say abut the tpic and rganize yur ideas and write clearly.
2)A gd utline shuld have a headline, a list f main ideas and a list f imprtant details.
3)A headline can tell the readers what the tpic is, s it can attract the readers’ attentin since the reader may nt have bught the newspaper befre they read the headline.
4)First yu give a headline, then yu rganize the main ideas int paragraphs. Next, yu put sme details int each paragraph.
5)A newspaper stry gives the mst imprtant news first and the least imprtant news last.
4. Read this example f a newspaper stry. Wrk in grups f three r fur. Try t find the headline, main ideas and details f each paragraph.
