I. Warming up
1. Warming up by answering a questinnaire
1). Tell the students they are ging t answer a questinnaire abut why they are learning English.
2). Write the wrds: Reasns fr learning a freign language n the center f the bard:
3). Ask the students t suggest as many reasns as they can think f, fr example, fr wrk, as a hbby, t learn abut ther peple, t travel, t read literature in the riginal, t read research papers, t meet freigners, t surf the Internet, t pass exams, etc. Write their suggestins n the bard as they make them.
4). Divide the class int pairs.
5). Give ut each student ne questinnaire paper.
6). Explain the task. The students must questin each ther abut their language learning needs (r mtivatins). Tell them that yu are ging t take in the questinnaires at the end, and that yu’d like them t make clear ntes. It wrks better if the tw partners swap tasks (questins and answers) after each sectin f the questinnaire. If they wait till the end t swap, ne student may use up all the time available.
7). When the task is finished, ask a cuple f students t summarize their partners’ answers. (This may develp int a class discussin abut language needs).
8). The students write five sentences n their feeling abut learning English.
9). Cllect the questinnaires.
2. Further applying
T get the students thinking abut the tpic f the reading passage.
1). Have a student list n the bard all the English-speaking cuntries in the wrld that they can think f.
2). Give the students hints abut the places they haven’t mentined.
3). Prvide the students with an pprtunity t think abut the reasns fr the spread f English arund the wrld.

Let the students find ut key sentence f each paragraph r ask them t summarize the main pint fr each paragraph in their wn wrds.
2. Scanning
Read t lcate particular infrmatin and cmplete the cmprehending Exercise One.
3. Fllwing up
Wrk in grups. Discuss the tw questins and then ask tw grups t reprt their answers t the class.
