Told through those poems, The Poet Xpo - the National Book Award winner for young people's literature — vividly details a young person’s discovery of her own power and her growing ability to share it.    '    Darius the Great Is Not Okay, Adib KhorramThis novel tells the story of Darius Kellner, a high school student who can’t find his place in America or Iran. In Portland, he’s struggling socially and thinks he is a disappointment to his father. In Iran, he faces harsh (苛刻的)judgement from relatives. Khorrani captures(记录)the insecurities of being a teenager through Darius, who learns that sometimes handling what's uncomfortable is what helps us grow.Harbor Me, Jacqueline Woodson     '    ,Six middle school students share a room once a week — A Room to Talk. In the novel, Woodson uses these six students' stories to show how important it is to teach kids to support one another.Love, Matt de la PenaWhat is love? To Matt de la Pena, it is experienced in the little moments of every day — walking outside a subway station, watching your grandfather as he fishes ... Accompanied by Loren Long's attractive pictures, this book, also available in Spanish, celebrates how love exists in the ordinary and why we should treasure moments, big and small, with the people in our lives.1Which author won the National Book Award?AAdib Khorram BMatt de la PenaCElizabeth Acevedo DJacqueline Woodson2What can we know about Darius Kellner?AHe prefers to write poems.BHe lives a happy life in Portland.CHe gets along well with his relatives.DHe sees discomfort in a positive way.3Which book has a Spanish version?ALove. BHarbor Me.CThe Poet X. DDarius the Great Is Not Okay.     I heard many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling(叛逆). I suggested they recall their own teenage years. At that age they would like to be growing away from parents. They preferred to stand on their own two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of going out fighting bravely on their own, most of them are clutching (紧握) at one another’s hands for reassurance. They declare they want to dress as they like. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up gathering around listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in a similar way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon (蚕茧) into a larger cocoon. It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today’s parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All this create a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don’t care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go for it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come — with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really matters.4This passage is aimed at _______.Apeople who try to understand and respect each otherBreaders who try to be popular with people aroundCparents who try to control and guide their childrenDteenagers who try to seek for their real selves5The author doesn’t prefer rebelling teenagers _______.Awalking a new way on their ownBalways turning to friends for helpCgrowing away from parentsDfollowing others blindly6The phrase “larger cocoon” at the end of the second paragraph refers to _______.Athe care and love from parentsBthe popular trend in the societyCthe present teenage marketDthe fantastic music world7According to the author, what might happen when a teenager follows his/her own path?AHe/She gets larger collection.BHe/She gains valuable popularity.CHe/She shares fresh thoughts with classmates.DHe/She loses good friends.     I grew up in a small village, where I saw girls aged five or six, carrying younger siblings, and begging on the streets for food. They were dirty, and wore clothes that were little more than rags. I wondered, why their parents would not give them enough to eat, till I was told that their parents probably gave them all they had, and went hungry themselves. They lived in hovels, and often while the older children begged, the younger ones were asleep on the roadside. As I grew up, and left the village to pursue my studies in a bigger town, these images stayed with me. However, to my dismay, I found that there were more such beggars there, than I had seen in my village. It struck me then, that I lived in a poor country where poverty was a curse suffered by large numbers of the population. It was at this stage of my life, that I made up my mind to do my bit to ease the pain of these poor, unfortunate people. My parents were happy to see that I felt so much sympathy for those less fortunate than me, and encouraged me to do small things like offering food, sweets or clothes to poor people nearby on my birthday, instead of having a party for my friends. Fortunately, my school too was at the forefront of social work, involving educating those who did not have the means to go to a proper school. We students, were taken to nearby rural areas, to stay with the villagers and understand their problems. We also sometimes helped the younger children with their homework, and encouraged them never to stop their schooling, because many children are forced to stop going to school, and instead help their parents out in small jobs. As I graduated from high school, I realized that the means to end poverty was education. I found that poor children were less healthy, and more prone to disease than their peers in more advantaged homes.8At first the author may believe the parents of the poor kids are ________.Aless fortunate Bcruel to little childrenCtoo busy with their work Dliving badly off9From the passage we can conclude the author is ________.Ahard—working and determined Bregretful and disappointedCwell---educated and optimistic Dmerciful and warmhearted10Which is the best way to eradicate poverty?AInvestment to boost economyBSocial work by the government officialsCCompulsory education for all childrenDUrbanization of all rural areas11What does the author’s school do for those who cannot continue with their schooling?AIt plays an active part in educating those dropped--out kids.BIt encourages the students to do surveys in the countryside.CIt urges the government to promote education.DIt offers food and clothes to poor people in rural areas. Orville Wright was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio, USA and died on January 30, 1948. Together with his brother, Wilbur, he was the first airplane builder. The brothers created the first controlled, powered and heavier-than-air human flight. His parents were Milton Wright and Susan Catherine Koerner and besides the two famous brothers they had five children. One day after a trip his father brought as a gift a small helicopter. The kids loved it and as they played daily with it after a while it broke. The brothers managed to create a new one. Wright even let go his plans of attending Yale. He spent his time helping his ill mother and reading in his father’s library. In 1884 the family decided to move to Dayton and they remained there until the 1870’s. A printing press was built by the two and Wilbur was an editor. In 1892 they started being fascinated by the aeronautical (航空的) events of that time. Then they started to create an airplane and Wilbur was considered the head of the team. They were the inventors of “three axis-control”, which permitted the pilot to steer the aircraft’s balance. In 1900 they had their first attempts to make a functional glider (滑翔机)--- of course it didn’t have a pilot. After three years they thought of introducing an engine to the glider. At first, their patent (专利) application was refused in 1903, but after one year it was accepted.Orville’s first flight lasted 12 seconds and had 36.5 meters. He was responsible with the public shows near Washington in the United States. On September 9, 1908 his flight was 62 minutes and 15 seconds long and the success was huge.12What might make Wright brothers interested in the plane?AThe pleasant trip BCatherine’s educationCThe political events. DTheir father’s gift.13Wright didn’t go to Yale probably because        .Ahe had to create a planeBhe didn’t have enough moneyChe would like to learn by himselfDhis mother asked him to stay at home[14The underlined word “steer” (in Paragraph 3) probably means          .Akeep Bdrive Clearn Denjoy15This passage tells us about            .Athe plane’s history BMilton and his childrenCOrville Wright’s life Dthe development of science  二、七选五    Scientists and spiritual teachers alike agree that the simple act of smiling can transform you and the world around you. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens, her music teacher, to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Emily’s body and said, “Kid, you just don’t fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.”Hurt and upset, Emily decided never to try out for it again. But this year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Buttler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.Emily didn’t want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. The focus of the festival was the wonderful performances given by students, including singing, dancing and playing various instruments. Lectures were also given about Chinese traditional music as well as foreign music, so that we could appreciate the beauty of different kinds of music. The music festival ended with a beautiful song, which is easy to dance to.The music festival was not only great fun but also gave us an opportunity to develop our understanding of music. Music is what we need in life, and more importantly, it is vital for our personal growth.47One possible versionParagraph 1:The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. She was not rejected this time. Her name was at the top of the list. She was chosen to be the leading singer. She would sing in front of the line in the performance. Emily couldn’t believe her eyes. There must be some mistake. But Mr. Buttler said to her firmly, “Emily, I choose you because your voice is unusual. Believe in yourself.” Greatly encouraged, Emily practiced really hard.Paragraph 2:Finally, the day of the performance came. At the thought of standing in front of such a large audience, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. When the curtain opened, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. “Emily White!” someone whispered. Then, along with the first note of music, Emily began to sing. Her voice was ringing through the auditorium. Applause! Emily felt so happy and comfortable. She was shining on the stage.
