"My P.E. teacher taught me maths." It has been a common joke for years but when a P.E. teacher applied for the head-teacher job, many parents worried that the joke could come true. Some parents asked, "Does the P.E. teacher know maths and English? If not, how is he supposed to tutor the students? " But there were still parents who believed P.E. teachers had more time to discipline the students since they didn’t have many classes.
“This concern is actually a subject bias", that is, choosing a P E teacher as the head-teacher is not good for the students' grades since he doesn't know Chinese, maths, or English. It is acceptable not Chinese teachers, maths teachers and English teachers to be head-teachers because these subjects are important to entrance exams and scores. Such a concern reflects parents' anxiety in the current educational environment, which tends to link the head-teachers responsible subject with the facts whether the school cares about the class and the children‘s performances in the subject.
Many people care about their kids' academic performances only. They don’t care about their kids' P.E. performance at all. Even if kids have P.E. classes, parents care little. P.E. teachers are in humble position and their classes are often occupied by other teachers. Of course, if students P.E. performance is related to grades and entrance exams, parents won’t mind "a P.E. teacher being the head- teacher”
At the moment, P.E. is gradually included in entrance exams.
In terms of high school entrance examination, Guangzhou will launch a new high school entrance exam which includes P.E. performance and Health examination in 2021, raising the score to 70 points.
In terms of the college entrance examination, universities having the right of independent enrollments added P.E. tests to their entrance exams in 2019. This practice is seen as an important signal that the assessment of physical fitness and athletic ability, which are important aspects of a student’s overall quality, may be included in the college entrance examination in the future
We hope that it's a trend for P.E. teachers, music teachers and art teachers to become head-teachers
    4. By saying "My P.E. teacher taught me maths.", what does the author intend to show us?
    A. It is just a joke that seldom happened in reality. B. P.E. teachers hardly assist students in maths.
    C. P.E. teachers are good at teaching maths. D. Parents doubt the ability of P. E. teacher.
    5. We can infer from paragraph 2 that a P.E. teacher _______.
    A. is of little benefit for students' academic performance
    B. is humbler than Chinese, math or English teachers
    C. reflects whether the school cares about the class
    D. gets unfairly judged due to the current educational system
    6. Why does Guangzhou raise proportion(比例) of P.E. performance in high school entrance examination?
    A. To raise students' awareness of physical health.
    B. To call on parents to pay attention to P E. teachers.
    C. To test the overall ability of high school students.
    D. To make P.E teachers equal with other teachers.
    7. What opinion does the author hold towards P.E. teachers working as head-teachers?
    A. Neutral B. Unexpected C. Supportive D. Critical
    C
Conducting interviews for news stories is an important skill for any journalist. To start, do as much research as you can and prepare a list of questions to ask. Once the interview starts, try to develop a rapport(融洽的关系) with your "source"—anyone a journalist interviews, but don't waste your time. If your source starts to talk about things that are clearly of no use to you, don't be afraid to gently but firmly turn the conversation back to the topic at hand.
It's an old debate among journalists: Which works better when interviewing a source, taking notes (the old-fashioned way) or using a cassette or digital voice recorder? Both have their advantages and disadvantages. A reporter's notebook and a pen or pencil are the easy-to-use, time-honored tools of the interviewing trade, while recorders enable you to get everything someone says word for word. Which works better? It depends on what kind of story you're doing.
Many beginning reporters complain that with a notepad and pen, they can never take down everything a source says in an interview. But you don't have to note everything down. Keep in mind that you're probably not going to use everything they say in your story. So don't worry if you let slip a few things.
So you've done a long interview with a source, you have pages of notes, and you're ready to write. But chances are you'll only be able to choose a few quotes from that information collected directly from the source. Which ones should you use? Reporters often talk about using only "good" quotes for their stories, but what does this mean? Broadly speaking, when someone says something interesting, and says it in an interesting way, that can make a good quote.
8.What is a journalist advised to do during an interview?
    A. Be gentle with the source. B. Carry on a long conversation.
    C. Make the conversation interesting. D. Prevent the conversation being off-topic.
    9. What do the underlined words "let slip" in Paragraph 3 mean?
    A. give away B. leave out C. get rid of D. take up
10.What is considered as a good quote for a reporter?
    A. A direct quote. B. An important point of view.
    C. A piece of basic information. D. Something funny a source says interestingly.
11.What is the text mainly about?
    A. The job of a journalist. B. The process of interviewing.
    C. Some facts about interviewing. D. The relationship between a journalist and a source.
    D
A cheap printed sensor could transmit wildfire warnings. Wildfires have recently destroyed regions across the world, and their gravity is increasing. Hoping to reduce harm, researchers led by Yapei Wang, a Chinese chemist of Renmin University, say they have developed an inexpensive sensor to detect such fires earlier with less effort.
Current detection methods rely heavily on human watchfulness, which can delay an effective response. Most wildfires are reported by the general public, and other alerts come from routine foot patrols(巡查) and watchtower observers. Passing planes and satellites also occasionally spot something, but "the fire first appears on the ground," Wang says. "When you see the fire from the sky, it is too late."
The team says its new sensor can be placed near tree trunks' bases and send a wireless signal to a nearby receiver if there is a dramatic temperature increase. That heat also powers the sensor itself, without replacing batteries. The team printed the substances onto ordinary paper to create a sensor for just $ 0.40.
But improving coordination(协调) among the different agencies involved in firefighting is even more crucial to address, says Graham Kent, an earthquake expert at the University of Nevada, Reno, who was not part of the study. Kent is director of ALERT Wildfire, a network that uses cameras and crowd sourcing to watch for fires in California, Nevada and Oregon. "The whole way that you respond to a fire until it's put out is like a ballet," he says. "You'd have to choreograph(设计)it just so, with resources precisely used at the right time and place and in the right order from detection to confirmation to assignment to extinguishment(熄灭). Fire detection is just step one."
Wang says his team's next steps are to extend the device's signal range beyond the current 100 meters, which can limit practical use, and to develop a protective shield for it. The transmitter's effectiveness, he notes, will also need to be examined in the field ahead.
    12. What does the underlined word "gravity" in paragraph 1 probably mean?
    A. pull B. extinction C. popularity D. severity
13.What do we know about the sensor?
    A. Its price remains high. B. Its batteries are replaceable.
    C. It can detect fires earlier and easier. D. It can reduce firefighters' pain.
    14. What does Kent mean in paragraph 4?
    A. Firefighting is easy but crucial. B. Fire detection resources are rich.
    C. Putting out a fire is an orderly activity. D. Technology is the key to extinguishing a fire.
    15. What's the plan for the new sensor according to Wang?
    A. Improving and testing it. B. Limiting its use and transmission.
    C. Examining and reducing its signal range. D. Getting it on the market ahead of time.
    第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Personal development doesn't just happen. 16 Self-development requires hard work, devotion and an ever-growing skill. So,what new skills do you need to power forward?
On your journey toward your best self, you need to set goals. The key is balance: If your goals are too high, you'll get discouraged when you fall short. 17 The better approach is to think in milestones. If you want to be a novelist, don't set a goal to finish a book in a week. Focus on getting a couple of pages done each day, or on writing a chapter each week. This measurable progress is more sustainable and fulfilling.
18 To keep going when times are tough, you have to learn how to manage your stress levels. If light walks help you keep your head on straight, schedule one for your lunch period every day. If you need to take Sundays off to recharge for the next week, it's more than acceptable to do so.
Organization is a skill that comes more naturally to some people than others. If you're a naturally messy person, start small. Otherwise, you'll be at a loss. 19 Clean up your bedroom or your car. If physical cleaning is stressful, start by cutting out files from your computer. Believe it or not, one clean space can set the tone for the rest of your life.
On the road of personal development, you'll run into some barriers. Nobody but you can remove these from your path. 20 Perhaps anxiety is keeping you from doing your best work. Instead of struggling through it, quietly take a mental health day.
    A.Personal growth needs stress management.
B.Focus on the places where you spend the most time.
C.You can't expect to wake up the next day with new skills.
D.Don't let personal challenges stand in the way of your growth.
    E. That's why problem solving is a vital skill for self-development.
    F. You absolutely don't need to disclose why you're taking a sick day.
    G. Start too small, and you'll become satisfied with your progress too early.

There are too many fat people in America, so many Americans are fighting against overweight. But the     41     thing is that the French, who consume rich food,     42     to stay thin. Now a    43     by Cornell University suggests     44     life style and decisions about eating may affect weight. Researchers conclude that the French tend to stop eating when they feel     45    . However, Americans tend to stop when their     46     are empty or their favourite TV show is over.
According to Dr Joseph Mfercola, a health expert, the French see eating     47     an important part of their life style. Today the rate of obesity —or extreme overweight—among adults, is only 6%. However, as American fast food gains     55     and the young reject older traditions, the obesity rate among French children has reached 17%—and is growing.

To enrich our school life and strengthen the communication between the students , the Students’ Union is intended to hold a Microfilm Exhibition Show for exchange students in our school.
Themed “China in my eyes”, the activity is meant to show your discovery of a wonderful China along your learning process. Any foreign student interested in and skilled at video-making is welcome to sign up for it. The microfilm is expected to be a 15-minute one and should be handed in before December 10.
It’s really a good chance for you to show your talent for shooting a film. Come on!
