The bus screamed t_ a stp in Nazareth. Israel. Five Australian backpackers barded and struck up a cnversatin with me. They asked typical travelers questins -where was I ging and why was I traveling alne? Studies shw that lder peple tend t remember the psitive things in life rather than the negative things, while yunger peple remember the psitive and negative equally well. The dminant psychlgical thery t explain this is that lder peple are aware f their limited time left, s they priritize psitive emtinal experiences. But abut a decade ag, I wrked with bilgist Rbert Trivers n his idea that there was an evlutinary basis fr lder peple's increased psitive utlk. Our research tk us in the fascinating directin f explring hw the bdy uses its energy.
When ur ancestrs needed mre energy than usual, perhaps while being chased by a tiger, they had t get that energy frm smewhere in the bdy. Culd they brrw it frm the brain? That rgan uses 20 percent f ur metablic (新陈代谢) utput, whether we are slving math prblems r watching televisin reruns. Due t this cnstant energy requirement, brrwing energy frm the brain when ur need- surpasses the available supply is nt an ptin. Perhaps we culd brrw energy frm ur muscles. Because we use far mre muscle energy when we are active than when at rest, in principle, we culd brrw energy when we are sitting. But the prblem is that mst f the energy-demanding emergencies f ur ancestrs required a muscular respnse. There was n way t brrw energy frm ur muscles during an emergency because relaxing when a tiger shwed up was nt an effective respnse. This brings us t ur immune system, which, when strng, prtects us frm many illnesses and diseases. Like the brain, the immune system wrks at great metablic cst, but largely in the service f keeping us healthy, in the future. We have. an enrmus number f immune cells cursing thrugh ur bdy, a mmentary break frm prductin is fine. S. when ur bdy needs extra energy,ne f the places it ges is ur immune functin. When yu're being chased by a tiger, yu dn’t need t waste energy making immune cells t fight ff tmrrw's cld. What yu need is t shift all available energy resurces t yur legs, with the hpe that yu will live t experience anther cugh r sneeze.
As a result, ur immune system evlved t run in maximum amunts when we re happy, but t slwdwn dramatically when we re nt. With this backgrund in mind, Trivers suppsed that lder peple evlved a strategy f turning this relatinship n its head, becming mre fcused n the psitive things in life in an effrt t enhance their immune. functining. This was helped alng by their knwing much mre abut the wrld than yunger adults, s they can deal with sme f the unpleasant things in life mre easily.
    63. Accrding t Rbert Trivers, when ur bdy needs extra energy, ________
    A. muscles will respnd t it by relaxing a little bit
    B. rgans will speed up metablic prcesses t answer it
    C. immune system will temprarily shut dwn t fulfill it
    D. brain will satisfy it by sharing ptinal metablic utput
In paragraph 3 “this relatinship" mst prbably refers t the ne between ________
    A. experiences and related knwledge
    B. happiness and bilgical evlutin
    C. immune functin and health
    D. ptimism and length f life
    65. What can be cncluded frm Rbert Trivers study?

    Spacewalk!
Mst peple dn't knw that the anniversary f an imprtant event in space explratin ccurred last mnth. On March 18, 1965, spaceman Aleksi Lenv became the first human t cmplete an Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA) r spacewalk It marked the first time that a human was able t leave a spacecraft and perate in the emptiness f space. It is a dangerus prcedure, but ne that is vital fr the success f manned space missins.
(67)__________ In space, a spacesuit must prtect peple frm extreme cld and heat, prvide air t breathe, and remve extra carbn dixide._ 68_ T much f it, and the spacesuit becmes firm and difficult t mve in. T little f it, and astrnauts can becme dangerusly sick after returning t their spacecraft.
Astrnauts nw perfrm cmplex jbs in the emptiness f space in mdern spacesuits. They have lgged many hurs repairing and upgrading equipment n satellites: during EVAs. (69)___________ On July 20h, 1969,American astrnaut Neil Armstrng set ft n the mn fr the first time. There is n atmsphere n the mn, but there is gravity- -abut 17 percent f Earth's, which means Neil needed a special suit fr walking n the mn's surface. Suits fr the mn are equipped fr explratin far frm any. vehicles, including tugh bts that can resist cuts frm the rugh surface while walking. But sharp rcks weren't the nly danger t astrnauts.
The mn surface is cvered with a fine and flur-like dust which cnsists f small particles (颗粒) leftver frm the numerus. meterite RMB) strikes n the mn. (70)__________. When astrnauts wuld leave the mn's gravity, the dust n their suits began flating all ver. It gt int delicate equipment inside the spacecraft and the astrnaut's eyes and lungs. As different space agencies plan fr returning peple t the mn, new EVA suit designs will have t take smething else int accunt. Keeping astrnauts safe als means keeping their suits clean.

Hlding Parents Respnsible -An Unfair Punishment
The rise in teen crime suggests. that sme parents are failing at their parental tasks. T crrect the prblem, lawmakers in sme states require parents t serve jail time. They hpe that this punishment will mtivate parents t take their respnsibilities seriusly.
Despite public supprt fr parental respnsibility laws, many peple think that the laws are unfair. They suggest that parents shuld nt be punished fr the criminal acts f their children, unless it can be shwn there is a related fault n the parents part. Fr example, if yung teenagers. are arrested fr drinking alchl supplied by parents, then parents shuld be held respnsible because they helped the teenagers break the law.Peple wh ppse parental respnsibility laws -als believe that punishing parents is unlikely t create a change in the kids behavir. These peple argue that parents may nt be at fault. The children f gd parents can fall in with the wrng kids and get int truble, they say. Wrse yet, if mm is in jail, there may be n ne at all t cntrl her kid. That lack f cntrl may then lead t mre crime,/
The unfrtunate fact is that jailing a mm ,r dad punishes the rest f the family. The jailed parent can nt wrk t help feed the family r pay the rent. A parent wh is sent t jail fr the crimes f a teenager may als be fired frm a jb fr missing t much wrk. Furthermre, little evidence exists t supprt the idea that the threat f punishment imprves a parents ability t cntrl a teenager. The prblem is that sme teens cannt be cntrlled by their parents, even if the parents try hard t cntrl them. These struggling parents are nt ignring their parental respnsibilities. Oppnents f parental respnsibility laws say that parents wh are in this situatin need help, nt a jail sentence.
