1. Teach the new words and expressions:

2. Teach the sentence patterns:

Can you ____? Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

What club do you want to join? I want to join ______.

1. Have students talk about people’s ability with can.
2. Have students master the following expressions: play the guitar, play chess, be good at, want to do.

教学过程

Lead-in

Show some pictures and ask students to answer the questions: What can he / she / they do? Let students answer: He / She / They can _____. Learn the new words: guitar, sing, dance, swim, draw, chess.

Learn

Step 1 Let students look at the picture in 1a. Then read the words and phrases. Let students match the activities with the people. Then ask question: What clubs can you see in the picture? I can see _______.

Step 2 Let students do a pair work to practice the sentence pattern.

A: Can you _____?  B: Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

Step 3 Listen to the conversations in 1b and number them 1-3. Then ask students to make their own conversations. Ask some pairs to show in the front of the class.

A: I want to join the _____.

B: Can you _____?

A: Yes, I can.

Step 3 Listen to the conversations in 2a and and do the exercises. Then according to the conversations, let students answer the questions: ①What club does Lisa want to join? ②What club does Bob want to join? ③What club does Mary want to join?

Step 4 Role-play the conversation in 2d. Let students read it loudly and answer the questions: ①What can Jane do? ②What can Bob do? ③What club does Jane want to join? ④ What club can Bob join? Ask some pairs to act out the conversation.

Language points

1. can的用法：Can是情态动词，没有人称和数的变化，后接动词原形，否定形式为cannot=can’t。变一般疑问句时将can提到主语前。

我会弹吉他。I can play the guitar.

他会唱歌。He can sing.

她会跳舞吗？Can she dance?

2. play的用法：play表示“弹奏，演奏（乐器）”，后接西方乐器时，名词前加定冠词the，后接球类和棋类时，名词前无冠词。

弹吉他/钢琴/小提琴  play the guitar / piano / violin

打篮球/踢足球  play basketball / football

下棋  play chess

3. want的用法: want表示“想...”，want to do sth. “想要做某事”。

我想加入游泳俱乐部。I want to join the swimming club.

4. join的用法: join表示“加入某党派、组织或社会团体”。join in = take part in 表示“参加某项活动”。

我想参军。I want to join the army.

我想参加学校运动会。I want to join in / take part in the school sports meeting.

5. tell 的用法：tell表示“讲述、告诉”。tell stories是固定搭配，意为“讲故事”。tell sb. sth. 告诉某人某事  tell sb. (not) to do sth. 告诉某人做（不做）某事

我能给你讲个故事。I can tell you a story.

老师告诉我要自己完成作业。The teacher tells me to do homework by myself.

彼得的妈妈告诉他不要在家里踢足球。Peter’s mom tells him not to play football at home.

6. be good at的用法：be good at表示“擅长于……”，后接名词、代词或 v-ing形式。be good at = do well in

她擅长跳舞。She is good at dancing. = She does well in dancing.      

Exercises

Ask students to do some exercises that they have learned in the class.
