    Unit 2 Neighbours

    Reading (Ⅰ)

     

    Teaching aims:

    1.To learn about Simon’s neighbours

    2.To infer meaning from keywords, context and existing knowledge

    3.To understand a series of events and simultaneous actions.

    4.To practise the students’ abilities of reading and comprehension.

    Teaching Procedures:

    Step 1 Discussion

    Ask the students to talk about their neighbours by answering the following questions.

    1. Where do you live?

    2. How many buildings are there in your neighbourhood?

    3. What do you have around your neighbourhood?

    4. Do you like living there?

    5. Do you often help your neighbours?

    6. What are your neighbours like?

    Step 2 Presentation

    Present the new words about good neighbours.

      Teach the students how to read them.

      Read the words in pairs.

    Step 3 Listening

     Listen to the dialogue, then finish the exercise B1.

     Step 4 Reading

    Ask and answer in pairs.

    1. What are Simon’s neighbours like?

    2. What’s the name of the club? When do the volunteers have a meeting?

    3. Is there anything wrong with Simon’s computer?

    4. What’s wrong with Annie?

    5. How do the volunteers help the old people?

    Step 5 Read for more details

        Read the dialogue again and write a T if a sentence is true or an F if it is false.

    1. Volunteers share their skills and help people in the neighbourhood with different problems.  ________
    2.  Usually there is a meeting at the weekend.  ________                         
    3.  Simon wants to ask someone to fix his bicycle.  _________                              

    4. Annie’s computer is broken.  __________

    5. Parents help their children with their homework.  _________                                    

    6. Volunteers also help the old people.  __________

    Step 6. Homework

    1.Recite the new words and the text.

    2.Retell the dialogue.

    3.Finish the writhing homework.
