    Teaching background

    The main content of this unit is to start the lesson with "review the attributive clause", let the students recall the definition and structure of the attributive clause again, lead to the "language practice" in the text, and ask the students to draw the sentence containing that in activity 1. Exercise students' oral ability by asking them to supplement the dialogue and carry out oral practice. The teacher shows the pictures of animals and uses small games to practice the attributive clause again. Finally, by studying Kathy Freeman's sports career, let the students learn the indomitable spirit of optimism.

    Language practice

    1. The teacher shows the sentences of "attributive clause" in the textbook.

    (1)I have some photos that I took in Australia last year.

    (2)They wear special hats that keep the flies away.

    (3)The horse that I rode was lazy.

    (4)The game that they like most is Australian football.  

    1. Asks the students to read them out loud and translate them.
    2. Think about it: what if the antecedent is person or place?
    1. Read the passage and underline all the sentences with that.

    1)  Read the passage in activity 1, draw the attributive clause containing that and translate it.

    2)  The teacher uses multimedia to show the pictures of "Bondi Beach" and introduce them.

    3)  Ask the students to think about what the leading words of the following two sentences should be used?

    Do you like the book__________color is yellow?

    The boys__________are playing football are from Class One.

    The teacher explains the Grammar to the students.

    that 引导定语从句

    that 为定语从句的引导词, 放在先行词及定于从句之间起连接作用, 同时在定语从句中充当句子成分。 that 引导的定语从句既可以修饰无生命的事物, 也可以修饰有生命的动物或人, that 在从句中作主语或宾语(作宾语时可以省略)

    关系代词只能用that的情况:

    (1) 如果先行词是 all, much, anything, something, nothing, everything, little, none 等不定代词, 关系代词一般只用that, 不用which。例如:

    All the people that are present burst into tears.

    Is there anything that I can do for you? 

    (2) 如果先行词被 the only, the very, the same, the last, the best 等词修饰, 关系代词常用that (指人时, 可以用who)

    例如:

    This is the very book that I want to find.

    That is the best film that we have seen.

    I was the only person in my office that/who was invited. 

    (3) 当先行词被 all, every, no, some, any, little, much 所修饰时。例如:

    You can take any seat that is free.

    (4) 当先行词被序数词或形容词最高级所修饰时。例如:

    It is the first foreign book that I have ever seen.

    This is the most beautiful flower that I have seen.

    (5) there be句型中, 常用that

    There is a man that lives in that village.

    (6) 先行词有两个, 一个指人, 一个指物, 关系代词应该用that。例如:

    The boy and the dog that are in the picture are very lovely.

    Step 3 Practice

    1. Complete the conversations. Use that.

    1)  Work in pairs and complete the conversations.

    2)  Let some students show their answers.

    3)  Give encouragement and praise for good performance.

    4)  Check the answers.

    1. Think of an animal and write some sentences about it, starting with This is an animal that

     

    1)    Teachers use multimedia to put pictures of animals.

    2)    Ask one student to describe it with "this is an animal that..."

    3)    Ask other students to guess what animal it is. Those who guess right will get extra points.

    4.Put the words into the correct column.

    1) Let students read the words and make sentences as more as possible.

    2) Let students complete the sentences and translate the sentences.

    3) Check the answers.

    4) Give encouragement and praise for good performance.

    5. Complete the conversation with the expressions in the box.

    1) Give students 3 minutes to do it.

    2) Choose some students to show their answers.

    3) Check the answers.

    4) Let two students act out the dialogue.

     Listening

    6.Listen and number the pictures.

    1)  Let students look at the pictures and describe the pictures in groups .

    2)  Listen to the tape and number the pictures.

    3)  Check the answers.

    Reading

    7. Read the passage and check () the true sentences.

    1) Let students read the passage carefully.

    2) Choose the true sentences.

    3) Listen to the tape and check the answers.

    Play the tape and ask the students to imitate the fluent pronunciation as much as possible.

    Around the world

    1. The teacher uses multimedia to show the pictures of Cathy Freeman and introduces her honors in English.

    TCathy Freeman was born in Slade PointMackayQueensland, She is an Aboriginal.

    She was born in February 1973and she is a retired Australian sprinter.She ran mostly in the 400 metres event.She became the Olympic champion for the women's 400 metres in the 2000 Summer Olympics.

    (1)She lit the Olympic Flame at the beginning of the 2000 Games.

    (2)She has won several medals at the Commonwealth Gamesthe Olympicsand the IAAF World Championships.She retired from athletics in 2003.

    In 1998she was awarded Australian of the Year.In 2001.she was given both the World Sportswoman of the Year and the Medal of the Order of Australia.

    1. Let the students read by themselves, and then the teacher arranges one student in each group to read and explain the text.

    1. Work in groups. Talk about what you would like to include in your poster       and how to present it.

    Look up information on the Internet or ask people who have visited the country if they have any material for you to use.

    Present your information in an interesting way.

    Display your poster to the class.
