Wherever she goes, Molly leaves her marks. Without saying a word, she speaks to people with her kind eyes. Even when she walks away, she leaves an impression. Molly’s mark is a smile, stamped into the ground by the horseshoe at the bottom of her false leg.

A few years ago, Molly was badly attacked by a dog. The dog bit all four Molly’s legs and left large cuts on her face. Molly’s owner, Kate Harris, took her to an animal hospital. Doctors there were able to save Molly’s life, but soon one of her legs became very infected.

At first, doctors thought Molly would not survive. But Molly changed their minds. This pony, as doctors noticed, shifted(变换) her weight, and rested her good legs from time to time. Doctors knew that Molly had amazing intelligence, and that she wanted to live.

Several doctors operated on Molly, and removed her infected leg. A false leg was made for her. The leg was a hollow cast with a pole at the bottom for balance. Doctors gave Molly a special horseshoe at the bottom of the leg. This horseshoe she had had a stamp of a smiling face in it!

After the operation, Molly walked around on all four legs, as if nothing had ever happened to her! Now, with every step she takes, she stamps a smile in the dirt. But she leaves her mark in other ways, too.

Kate Harris took Molly to the false leg center. There were children there who, like Molly, had artificial arms or legs. They were amazed to see a pony with a false leg. Molly made them smile and gave them hope. Soon, Molly began to visit schools, nursing homes, army bases and hospitals. A book was even written about Molly!

I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.

When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. The next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.

Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I can't forget forever.

Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strongwilled determination , but what about the result after that? It might turn out to be pleasing and unbelievable. So, it is really worth waiting for the best.

28What can we learn from the passage?

AThe author's friends and the author took a trip to China.

BHawaii is a good place to enjoy the sunrise.

CThe author enjoyed the worst sunrise in his life.

DSometimes, it is worth waiting for the best.

29When did they see the first light of the sunrise?

    AAbout 3 o'clock.             BAbout 4 o'clock.

    CAbout 5 o'clock.             DAbout 6 o'clock.

30What's the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 2?

    ATotal.     BCold.    CWarm.    DInteresting.

31How did the author feel when waiting for the sunrise?

AExcited all the time.      BAfraid all the time.

CFirstly excited then afraid.       DFirstly excited then impatient.

    D

How much empathy (共鸣) do you feel toward other people? If you saw someone fall off their bike in traffic, would you stop and help, or just walk away? Many people would give in to coldness, go about their business and just do nothing. So it was a big surprise when about 100 bystanders got together recently to move a bus in East London to help a cyclist trapped under it. A video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to Zoheb, a driver who stopped his car to take part in the rescue, about five people gathered to move the bus. He says, “There was no chance we could do it; it was more an invitation for other people to help, really.”

The initiative (主动能力) paid off. Diners from nearby restaurants joined in. There wasn’t much coordination(协助)but it didn’t take long to develop a collective understanding of what the objective was.

Spontaneous (自发的) cooperation among strangers doesn’t happen often. People in a crowd are not sure what to do — they don’t have a plan. It’s one of the reasons why bystanders often do nothing, according to Dr. Mark Levine, professor of social psychology at the University of Exeter in Britain. “The presence of others can prevent you from helping,” he says.

“The key to positive group behavior,” Levine explains, “is building a sense of shared identity.” Action has to be decided quickly, Levine says. “The longer you leave it, the harder it is to make a decision. Then you kind of think ‘Well, actually I probably couldn’t have done anything anyway.’”

But the people who took the initiative like Zoheb might make a difference. The cyclist ended up in hospital and the images of the collective effort might inspire others to more acts of unity.

    32. Which of the following is TRUE when the incident happened in Paragraph 1?

    A. Few people paid attention to this.

    B. Many bystanders chose to do nothing.

    C. A number of people stopped to help.

    D. Many people felt little empathy to the incident.

    33. What does the writer mean by saying “The initiative paid off.” in Paragraph 3?

    A. Many people received an invitation to help.

    B. People lacked the sense of coordination.

    C. More people gathered to give a hand.

    D. Many people just went about their own business.

34 What should people do when such an incident happens according to Levine?

    A. Wait for others to offer help first.

    B. Call on everybody present to take action.

    C. Leave the problem to professional rescuers.

    D. Build a sense of shared identity and act quickly.

    35. What can be learned from the text?

    A. Collective effort is inspiring.

    B. The cyclist fully recovered soon.

    C. The sense of shared identity makes no difference.

    D. It's impossible for strangers to cooperate.

    第二节(共5小题,每题2.5分,满分12.5分)

    根据短文内容从文后的七个选项中选出能够填入空白处的选项,其中两个选项为多余选项。把答案写在答题卷上

Do you want to put a smile on someone’s face? Maybe make their day a little bit brighter?   36  In fact, many things can be done as a part of your normal routine and cost little or nothing. Try out one or more of the following ways today to put smiles on their faces.

____37____ Handwritten notes that are given to encourage someone, not just for thanking someone for a gift, are rare. That makes handwritten notes even more special. Start a new practice of sitting down and writing an encouraging note on a regular basis.

Take a friend out to lunch or invite him or her to your home for a meal. You will get to know each other even better than you do right now. If you feel like being more adventurous, throw a party for several of your friends.

38  We have all been sick and know the last thing you want to do is being out of bed. There are also times when life is tough. You can be a great help by providing a meal that can be enjoyed.

Ask a friend if you can take care of their kids for a day or an evening. If you have been a parent, you know the value of being able to have a few hours of “adult time” without worrying about the children.   39  Offer to do it when the parents want to relax themselves.

Besides, there is one more way that cannot be ignored. Give a real smile to everyone you meet.

        40

    A. Thank everyone that supports you.

    B. Write an encouraging note to others.

    C. Helping others will be rewarded with more smiles.

    D. Don’t wait to be asked to baby-sit when it is required.

    E. It doesn’t have to take much time or money on your part.

    F. You will experience how easy it is to get others to smile!

    G. Deliver a meal to someone you know that is sick or having a rough time.

Yesterday Mr Wang, our English teacher, tells us that many other teachers would visit the

writing class he would present to us. We were looking forward with it. That struck us as a

big surprise was that Mr Wang, who was used to be punctual, didn’t appear when the

school bell had rung. The teachers sitting behind the class were quite puzzling. We were

Mr Wang showed up in front of us! On the blackboard was the words of the writing title:
