Her mother Ashley stepped away from the pool for a moment: "I just remember seeing another woman run across and cry into the bar area for someone to call 911 because a baby had just drowned...I didn't think it was my baby."Henslee helped get Haven out of the pool as her "lip turned purple" and Ashley could then see it was her own daughter from the child's swimsuit. An employee at a children's hospital in Missouri herself, Ashley recalled the "feeling of losing my child."A heroic bystander helped Henslee and performed CPR until Haven could be transported to the hospital. The Bridegroom's Oak, a 500-year-old tree just outside of Eutin, in Germany, has its own postal address and receives around 40 letters every day. They're sent by love seekers from around the world, in the hope that someone will read them and write back. With so many dating apps(约会软件) and services available nowadays, sending letters to a tree hardly sounds like the best way to find love. However, there's something charming about sending a letter and allowing fate (命运) to work its magic, so the Bridegroom's Oak remains popular even now.In 1890 , a local girl named Minna fell in love with a young chocolate maker named Wilhelm, but her father didn't allow her to see the boy. Instead of giving up on each other, the two started exchanging love letters secretly, by leaving them in a knothole (节孔) of an oak tree. After about one year, Minna's father found out about their continued relationship, but instead of punishing them, he gave them permission to marry. The two lovers got married on June 2,1891 , under the oak tree that helped keep their romance (罗曼史) alive. The couple's story spread around Eutin, and soon, people from all over the world who are unable to find love started writing romantic letters and leaving them in the tree's knothole. However, love seekers visiting the Bridegroom's Oak need respect only one simple rule. They can check all the letters in its knothole, and take with them the one they wish to reply to, but they have to put the others back for other people to find.So far the Bridegroom's Oak has been responsible for at least 100 marriages and many other romantic relationships.

D. Foreigners have little idea of the Bridegroom's Oak.C
Work less, do more. It's an attractive idea that's becoming reality for a growing number of people in Sweden, where some companies are shortening their workdays from eight hours to six or even fewer. But is it possible to finish the same amount of work in less time? The answer depends on the person and the type of work, experts say. But plenty of evidence suggests that cutting back on hours can have many benefits, not just because people are usually happier when they work less. If done right, shortening the workday can also improve productivity (生产效率).The average American works about 47 hours a week, and many people work much more than that, even though many recent studies have connected working long hours with many health problems. People who work too much are more likely to gain weight, suffer workplace injuries and develop stress-related illnesses.Dealing with those problems can end up costing companies a large amount of money, experts say. One recent study found that stress in the workplace contributes to 120,000 deaths each year and as much as of health care costs in the US.Productivity can also suffer as the day goes on and it takes even more effort to maintain the same pace. A number of studies have found that intense (紧张的) periods of mental effort can impair people's ability to solve puzzles, make decisions and control emotions.
28. Why does the author provide the example of some Sweden companies in the first paragraph?
A. To provide support for his own ideas.
B. To introduce the topic of the passage.
C. To predict the change of views on workdays.
D. To provide a successful case of shorter workdays.
29. What does the underlined word "impair" in the last paragraph mean?
A.measure B. improve C. repair D. affect
30. Which might be the best title for the passage?
A. Work at Your Peak Efficiency
B. Assess Your Pace of Work
C. Can a 6-hour Workday Work?
D. Are You Shortening Your Workdays?第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Ways to protect eyes from screensToo much screen time may cause serious eye strain (眼疲劳)and even a sharp decline of eyesight. That's a big problem a lot of people are faced with nowadays, especially those who work on a computer. The following tips may be helpful.Get regular eye testsExperts recommend having a comprehensive eye exam every year to detect (探测)problems before they develop. During this test, you should tell the doctor how often you use your phone and your computer. 31 Tell your doctor about it, and your eyes can be tested more accurately at that distance.Give your eyes spaceThe closer your phone/computer screen is to your eyes, the harder they have to work to focus, 32 If this makes it hard for you to read, consider increasing the size of the text rather than moving the screen closer.Take breaksThis may not always be practical if you're quite busy, but it's important not to stare directly at a screen for too long. 33 While surveys have shown that many office workers take no more than half an hour a day away from their computer, it's recommended that you take a 15-minute break after every two hours spent at your screen.34Staring at a screen continuously for hours on end may make it difficult for you to focus. To avoid this, many eye experts recommend the “20-20-20 rule”---looking away from your phone/computer screen every 20 minutes and focusing on an object at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. The science behind his trick is that looking at objects at a distance relaxes the focusing muscle in the eye. 35A. Exercise your eyes.B. Give your eyes a chance to rest.C. Make your screen more eye-friendly.D. Studies show it’s an effective way to reduce tiredness.E. You should also measure the distance from your eyes to your screen at work.F. Make sure that you use your phone or computer in a room where the lighting is bright enough.G. Studies on eye strain suggest that computer screens should be no closer than 40 cm from your face. 第三部分语言运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节完形填空(共20小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读短文,选出最佳选项。It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible."Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?"' Mum asked him. "We will have an English spelling test today, Mum," Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them."Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. "Responsibility," Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
"The second word: contribution," Mr. White said.
"So easy," Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. "I am to mark your papers now," he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, "Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!"Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter's was an English-Chinese dictionary --- the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. "This is my happiest moment." Peter thought. After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling.
