Althugh he was a great player at university, the NBA was nt interested in him.
Thugh I like acting, I’d rather be a directr.
The music fr the Beijing Olympics uses traditinal Chinese music and the sunds f an ancient Chinese bell, thugh it is in a Western style.
Step 2 Grammar A
1. Read the sentences with thugh/althugh n the screen. Give them sme explanatin abut the tw cnjunctins and their usage.
(1) althugh/thugh连词,尽管, 虽然, 常用于引导让步状语从句。让步状语从句表示即使出现从句中的情况,主句动作仍然会发生,有“退一步说……”的意思。
(2) althugh和thugh可用于句首或句中, 但不能与连词but同时使用,不过可与yet, still连用。
(3) althugh和thugh在一般情况下可以互换使用。在口语中,thugh较常使用,althugh比thugh更正式一些。

1. Shw a picture and sme sentences with s…thatrsuch…that.

2. Give them sme explanatin abut s… that and such…that.
(1) s…that引导结果状语从句
s…that句型中的s是副词,常用来修饰形容词或副词, 常用句型为:
主语+谓语+s +adv./adj.+that从句.。
She is s yung that she can’t lk after herself.她如此小,不能照顾自己。
The by ran s fast that I culdn’t catch him.那个男孩跑得很快,我追不上他。
(2)such …that作“如此……以至于……”讲,连接一个表示结果的状语从句。such后跟名词性短语。
a. such+a(n)+adj.+单数可数名词+that…
He is such a clever by that everybdy likes him.
他是一个如此聪明的男孩,以至于每个人都喜欢他。
b. such+adj.+不可数名词+ that…
He has made such great prgress that the teachers are pleased with him.
他进步这么大,老师对他很满意。
c. such+adj.+复数名词+that…
They are such interesting nvels that I want t read them nce again.
这些小说如此有趣,我还想再读一次。
d. 如果名词前有many, much, few, little等词修饰的话,则不用such,而用s,其中要注意little这个词当它表示“数量少”时才可以和其他三个词有同样的用法。
He had s many falls that he was black and blue all ver.
他摔了很多跤, 以至于全身上下青一块,紫一块的。
He had s little educatin that he was unfit fr this jb.
他所受教育很少, 不适合做这份工作。
3. Translate the sentences with s…that and such…that.
(1) 这些问题太难了,没有人能回答。

(3)天气如此冷, 以至于没人出去。
(4)他的钱是如此少, 不能买这辆车。
(5)她的朋友是如此少, 以至于感觉很孤独。

s that可以引导目的状语从句,意为“以便;为了”,从句中常使用can /culd /may /might /will /wuld / shuld等情态动词或助动词,此时可与in rder that互换。
I spend mre time learning English every day s that(=in rder that) I can make greater prgress this year.今年为了取得更大进步,我每天花更多的时间学英语。
