Life is full of experiences. We can always remember the ones when we first did something. When I was in Grade 5, I was told to take part in an English writing competition. I was too nervous to speak when the teacher reported the news to the whole class. In order not to let my teacher and my classmates down, I trained myself very hard for the hope of being the winner of the competition.
I tried my best to learn as many words as possible. I spent all my time training so that I was able to memorize a lot more words, sentence structures and grammar rules as well as reading articles. The complete change seemed kind of strange in some all my classmates’ eyes.
The big day finally came. When I first saw the topic of the competition, a sudden feeling of nervousness came to me. At that moment, I realized I had no choice (选择) but to calm down (平静下来). Then I took a deep breath, and began to think up ideas about the topic. I quickly wrote down the structure, main ideas and other necessary words and phrases. As the finishing time was near, I tried my best to write more quickly. Unluckily, I didn’t complete my writing because I did not plan the time well.
The result came out two weeks later. To my surprise, I got the second prize. All my classmates cheered for me. Even though I was not the first prize winner, I could still feel pride and happiness spreading around me.

Are you happy? Perhaps some of you will say “no”. In fact, being a teenager is hard. You may worry about a lot of things in your life.
Do you know what British teenagers worry about most? You can find the answer from the chart below. The research was done by the UK’s Department of Health among more than 100,000 teenagers. Here are the results.
Many Chinese teenagers share similar worries with the British teenagers. A recent research shows that many Chinese teenagers suffer from social life, study and emotional problems.
To solve the problems, some schools came up with the idea of happiness education. For example, Tsinghua University High School tried to meet students’ needs. It built a skating rink and different laboratories to develop their interest.
While schools take action, students themselves can do something, too. The professor Nadia Lovett from Australia believes students’ habits, hobbies and attitude toward life all play a role in their happiness.

May 9th was Mother’s Day. My classmates celebrated this special day in different ways. Ten of them spend lots of pocket money buying gifts for their mothers. Fifteen of them made cards and gifts by themselves. Twenty students did as much housework as possible to help their mothers. Five students watched movies with their mothers.
All the ways above are OK. As for me, I made a music box for my mother. I kept the secret because I wanted to give her a surprise. It took me three hours to make it. I stuck a real rose to the cover of the box. After mom opened it, she heard a beautiful song. Mom was happy, and I felt even happier. Whatever we do, thanksgiving is the most important. Our mothers have given us so much love and care, so we should give them more in return. What’s more, working hard and being good kids are also good ways to make our mothers happy. Let’s take action to express our love to our mothers faithfully.
