8   周测练习一第二节  阅读理解ADid you know the meaning of a word may change over time? Many English words we know now had different meanings a long time ago. One example is the word nice.Around the year 1300, nice was first used in English to mean “stupid”. Two hundred years later, nice began to carry a “better” meaning. If people said a book was written nicely, they meant the book was written “clearly” or “carefully”, not “stupidly”. After 1800, nice began to take its meaning like kind or “friendly”. Since then, people have thought of nice as a word with good meanings.A good change of a word’s meaning like this example of nice is called AMELIORATION. Though we don’t use nice to mean “stupid” any more, it is fun to know how much a word’s meaning can change from its start! It is only when we cannot see perfectly that we realize how important our eyes are.People who are near-sighted can only see things that are very close to their eyes. Everything else seems blurry. Many people who do a lot of work, such as writing, reading and sewing become near-sighted. People who are far-sighted suffer from just the opposite problem. They can see things that are far away, but they have difficulty in reading a book unless they hold it at arm’s length. If they want to do much reading, they must get glasses, too.Other people do not see clearly because their eyes are not exactly the right shape. They have what is called astigmatism (散光). This, too, can be corrected by glasses. Some people’s eyes become cloudy because of cataracts (白内障). Long ago these people often became blind. Now, however, it is possible to operate on the cataracts and remove them.Having two good eyes is important for judging distances. Each eye sees things from a slightly different angle. To prove this to yourself, look at an object out of one eye; then look at the same object out of your other eye. You will find the object’s relation to the background and other things around it has changed. The difference between these two different eye views helps us to judge how far away an object is. People who have only one eye cannot judge distances as people with two eyes.    10.We should take good care of our eyes________.     .Aonly when we can see well Bonly when we cannot see perfectlyCeven if we can see wel     Donly when we realize how important our eyes are    11.When things far away seem indistinct(模糊不清) , one is probably________.     .Anear-sighted Bfar-sighted   Castigmatic Dsuffering from cataracts    12.The underlined word blurry in the second paragraph probably means_______.Aobvious Bpossible Cclear Dunclear    13.Having two eyes instead of one is particularly useful for_______   Aseeing at night          Bseeing objects far away Clooking over a wide area   Djudging distances第三节 完型填空AMr. Black was over fifty years old. But computer injuries happen slowly. You probably know how to ride a bike safely. Now learn to use a computer safely.    Your eyes    Too much light can injure your eyes, so never sit too close to a computer screen. Your eyes should be more than 50 centimeters from the screen. Don’t forget to look away from it sometimes. This gives your eyes a rest.    When you use a computer, the window should be on your left or your right. If it is behind you, the light will reflect on the screen. If the window is in front of youthe sun and the screen will both shine into your eyes.    Your hands and wrists.    Hand and wrist injuries can happen because the hands and wrists are moved in the same way hundreds of times.    If you use a keyboard for a long time, follow these three rules:    1) Rest your wrists on something.    2) Keep your elbows as high as the keyboard.    3) Stop sometimes and exercise your hands, wrists and fingers in a different way.     Your back    Some people sit for many hours in front of a computer. If you sit in the wrong way, you can injure your back or your neck. So you shouldn’t bend your back when you sit. The top part of the screen should be in front of your eyes. Your forearms, wrists, hands and the upper part of your legs should all be parallel  to the floor. If you are sitting for a long time, get up every half an hour and exercise your arms, legs and neck.    Enjoy your computer, but use it safely.Title: How to use a computer safelyDifferent parts of the bodyCauses of the injuriesSome ways of keeping you away from computer injuriesEyesToo much light can injure your eyesDon’t sit too close to a computerscreen.Your eyes should be over 1.              from the screen.Remember to 2.         the screen sometimes. 3.                You move them in the same way hundreds of times. You use a keyboard for a long time.Rest your wrists on something.
