Step 4 Presentation and demonstration (5’)
1. The teacher presents an e-friend’s profile to give more different expressions and create a real situation to arouse the students’ writing interest.
T: I also like to make friends. I have a lot of e-friends. Last week I got to know an e-friend called Liu Mei on the Internet.(show a photo of her) Look at the note of her profile on Baidu.
Hello! I am Liu Mei. I am 13 years old. I was born in Changzhou and I live in Changzhou too. I study in Changzhou No.8 Middle School. I am in Class2 Grade 7.
I am not tall. I have big black eyes and my hair is long and black.
I love listening to pop music. Jay is my favorite singer. I like reading books and I do well in Chinese. I am not good at Math, but I work hard on it.
I am kind and helpful. I have lots of friends at school. My teachers and classmates all like me very much.
I hope to be a teacher when I grow up. What about you?
2. Ask and answer about the e-friend.
T: What do you think of my e-friend? (She is beautiful, kind and helpful.)
What is she good at? (She does well in/ is good at Chinese.)
What is her dream? (She hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.)
Would you like to make e-friends? (Yes.)
Step 5 Discussing before writing (3’)
T: The more friends we make, the happier we’ll be. Just send a note of your profile on Baidu. Before writing, first fill in the table with your own information. Discuss in pairs. (Encourage the students to write more information about themselves. )
Name: | Age: |
Birthplace: | Living place: |
School name: | Class: Grade: |
You look: | |
You like: | |
You are good at: | |
You are not good at: | |
… … |
Step 6 Practicing writing (5’)
T: Write your own profile according to the information in the table.
Step 7 Checking and reporting (8’)
1. The students check for mistakes (spelling, punctuation, tense mistakes etc.) by themselves.
2. Check for mistakes in groups of four.
T: Take turns to read your own profile to the others, and try to get help from other members of the group.
3. Choose three students from different groups to tell the class about themselves. Project the passages on the screen and ask them what kind of mistakes they made.
4. Make a positive evaluation of the students’ passages and help the students heighten self-confidence.
Step 8 Summarizing and setting the homework (2’)
T: In this class we’ve learned how to write about yourself. What should we write about in the passage? (Let the students repeat the outline on the blackboard.)
T: After school, you can send the note of your profile on Baidu to make more e-friends. Copy the passage on a piece of paper and stick your photo on it to make it more attractive. And then put it on the blackboard on the back wall so that the classmates can know you well. Remember to read and recite Daniel’s profiles .
