Teaching procedures:
Ⅰ. Bring some pictures about different people and ask the students some questions.
What does the man do?
What is the girl’s job?
Is he a policeman?
Is she a nures?
Ⅱ. Lisetning
Ask the students to listen to the tape and complete Part A2.
Then get some students to tell the answers. Correct their mistakes.
Ⅲ. Listen to Wendy again and help Millie complete her notes below.
Ⅳ. Work in groups and talk about what they are going to do. Use the conversation below as a model.Then ask the students to make the dialogue. Get some groups to act it out in the class.

1. elder adj.&n. 年纪较长的;年长者
辨析elder与older的用法区别:
(1). elder和older都是old的比较级,意思都是“岁数较大、年龄较长”,但用法有些区别。
elder只用于人,多指兄弟姐妹之间年龄长幼中的“长”,只用作定语,不用作表语,也不能与than连用。
A lot of elder people don’t like pop music. 许多年纪大的人不喜欢流行音乐。
older可用于人或物,用于人时,指实际年龄大小中的“大”;用于物,意为“较旧的”,既可用定语、表语,也可与than连用。
I am two years older than my brother. 我比我弟弟大两岁。
(2). elder还可用作名词,单数指两人中年龄较大的人,复数泛指“长辈”,而older没有这种用法。
He is the elder of the two brothers. 两兄弟中他是老大。
Children should respect their elders. 孩子们应该尊敬长辈。
2.That sounds a good idea.那听起来不错。
sound作为动词,意思为“听起来,听上去”。常用作连系动词,后面接形容词做表语。
The news sounds good. 这个消息听起来不错。
辨析1 sound, noise与voice
sound(n.)指自然界中所有的声音,可指悦耳的声音也可指噪音;noise一般指很响的,刺耳的声音,即喧闹,嘈杂声等;voice指人通过发音器官发出的声音(包括说话,唱歌等)。
辨析2 hear, listen与sound
listen to+名词 听(强调听的过程),如listen to the radio听广播;hear+名词,听到(强调听到)如hear your voice听到你的声音;sound+形容词 听起来(强调听的效果),如sound good听起来不错

Explain to Ss that How to link sounds together.
1. 相邻的词中,前一个词的末尾是辅音,后一个词的开头是元音。如:
Take a look at it.
2. 为使说话流畅,词末元音可以和词首元音连读,而不停顿。如:
Don’t worry about it.
3. 连读加音
①外加音, /j/。两词相连,前一个词以/i/或/i:/结尾,后一个词以以/i/或/i:/起首,前一个词后加一个轻微的/j/,并和后一个词连读。如:
You can see it.
4. 连续加音。
①外加音/r/。两词相连,前一个词以/ /结尾,后一个词以/ /起首,前一个音后加一个/r/音,并和后一个/ /连读。如:
The room has an area of 12 square meters
③外加音/w/。两个元音连读,我们一个元音是/u:/或/u/时,产生一个轻微的加音/w/,和后一个词的元音词首连读。如:
Don’t do it.
5. 当两个词首尾有两个或两个以上的辅音时,为了使发音流畅,可以将这些辅音连在一起读,而不停顿。如:
I hope to find a good job.
Ⅵ. Ask the students to listen to the tape and read the phrases. Pay attention to the link words.
