●1 separate vt.&vi. 分开，隔开[点拨] separate 侧重指把原来连在一起或靠近的人或物分开，后面通常接介词frm。 He separated the big eggs frm the small nes. 他把那些大的鸡蛋和小的鸡蛋区分开来。This patient shuld be separated frm the thers. 这位病人应该和其他病人隔离。
[拓展] separate adj. 各自的，分开的The children sleep in separate beds. 孩子们都睡在各自的床上。
●2 harm vt. & n. 伤害，损害The medicine did nt harm him. Instead it saved his life. 这药没有伤害他，相反，它救了他的命。It wuldn't d him any harm t wrk a bit harder. 工作努力点儿对他没什么害处。
[拓展] harm的形容词形式是harmful，意为“有害的”。d harm t…＝be harmful t…， 意为“对……有害”。Smking is harmful t ur health.＝Smking des harm t ur health.吸烟对我们的健康有害。
●3 difference n. 差异，不同(之处)[点拨] difference一般用作可数名词。make a difference意为“有关系，有影响”；make a big difference t…意为“对……有很大影响；使……有了很大的不同”。There are many differences between living in a big city and living in the cuntry. 生活在大城市与乡村有许多不同之处。The exam will make a big difference t us. 这次考试将对我们有很大影响。
[拓展] difference的形容词形式是different，意为“不同的”。be different frm意为“与……不同”；be different in意为“在……方面不同”。It was very different frm mdern car races but n less exciting. 它与现代小汽车比赛大不相同，但激动人心的程度却毫不逊色。 The tw bys are different in their interests. 这两个男孩的兴趣是不同的。
●　 alive, living, lively, live和life(1)alive 是形容词，意为“活着的，在世的”，通常只作表语或后置定语。The fish we caught yesterday is still alive. 我们昨天捕的那条鱼还活着。
(2)living 可作形容词，意为“活着的，有生命的(尤指现存的)”；还可作名词，意为“生存之道，生计”。常用搭配：make a living 谋生；living things 生物。She has n living relatives. 她没有还健在的亲戚了。The living are mre imprtant t us than the dead. 对我们来说，在世的人比去世的人更重要。His uncle makes a living as a driver. 他的叔叔以开车谋生。
(3)lively 是形容词，意为“有生气的，生机勃勃的”。A lively persn is full f energy. 一个生气勃勃的人总是充满活力。(4)live 作动词时，意为“活着，生活，居住”；作形容词或副词时， 表示“现场直播”。Kings in histry wanted t live frever, but nne f them succeeded. 历史上国王都希望长生不老， 但没有一个成功。
It wasn’t a recrded shw. It was live. 它不是录制节目， 是实况转播。The race will be cvered live. 这场比赛将现场直播。(5)life 是名词，意为“生命，生活”。其复数形式是lives。Life is made up f little things. 人生是由琐碎的事构成的。
