Step 1 Revision Review the method of reading a nespaper we learnt in the last Unit When we read and come across new words,we can sometimes guess their meaning by the way they are formed Sometimes a prefix or a suffix changes the meaning of a word 1.How many acts do most plays have? Three to five acts 2. What is each act divided into? Divided into two scenes 3. What will be introduced first? The characters 4. what are the words in brackets used for? Tell the characters what to do or say Step 2 lead in Do you often read novels？ If so ,do you read them word by word or just read quickly to get the general idea? Step 3 Presentation When you read a novel, you often read quickly to get the general idea. You don’t need to understand each word. Part A on page117. The excerpt is from A study in scarlet It was written by Arther conan Doyle. Step 4 Practice Read the passage again and answer some questions 1who were the other two detectives Lesterade and Greson 2 Who were the two looking for Miss Rachel Divide the students into groups Find the four answers as quickly as possible Leave out some strange words Step 5Homework Finish the relevant exercises Preview Task
