(教学设计)
( Teaching material analysis)
In the grammar section, students will be guided to review adverbial clauses. Through analyzing typical examples and classifying the adverbial clauses, students are expected to master the usages of the grammar item, and put it into practice in some real context.
In the vocabulary learning, students will read the timeline presenting the contributions some Chinese and foreign celebrities made in the exchange of different cultures, and then use the key expression learned to a passage about a renowned literary named Qian Zhongshu.
Besides, the listening and speaking part focuses upon the conversation about teaching in the Confucius Institute abroad. A series of learning activities will enable students to grasp the course of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries from ancient times to the present.

1. Guide the students to correctly understand and use the adverbial clauses in the real context.
2. Lead the students to learn and use some useful expressions about cultural exchanges by reading about Chinese and foreign celebrities of different times.
3. Help the students enhance their listening ability. The students are expected to capture key information in listening to finish tasks given.
4. Guide the students to talk about how to better promote cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and enhance confidence in the development and spread of Chinese culture from different perspectives

Step 1 Review the adverbial clauses
Activity 1
1. Review common subordinating conjunctions and correctly use them according to the context.
2. Analyze typical examples and classify the adverbial clauses.

1. Have students read the timeline presenting the contributions some Chinese and foreign celebrities made in the exchange of different cultures.
2. Have students make notes of the key expressions in bold in Activity 5.

2. Work in pairs. Discuss what you can do to spread Chinese culture using the useful expressions in this section.
Step 7: Language appreciation
1. Gan Ying, a military envoy, exploded the Persian Gulf and became the first Chinese to get information on Europe.
