What do you want to be when you grow up? 长大以后你想做什么？when此处用作连词，意为“当……时”，用来引导时间状语从句。在when引导的时间状语从句中，主语是一般将来时，从句要用一般现在时表示将来。grow up意为“成长，长大”，grow的过去式是grew。want to be“想要成为……” ，其后接职业名称。2. How are you going to do that?  I’m going to practice basketball every day. be going to do sth. 结构表示“打算/将要做某事”，是一般将来时的表达方式之一，侧重表达主观意愿。例：I am going to work hard on English.3. The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway.此处的介词by为“由……所著”之意，用作作品的后置定语。例：a short story by Lu Xun 鲁迅的一篇短篇小说例：the music by Mozart 莫扎特创作的音乐4. Then you can be anything you want. 不定代词anything指代未来所从事的任何职业，从句you want用来修饰anything。例：something he doesn’t know about 他不了解的事5. Please send it to Jack. Section B 1. make the soccer team  成为足球队的一员 (1) team 作名词，意为“队；组”。表示在某个队或是某队的队员，用介词in/on。a team of 后跟复数名词，表示“一组/队……”例：The twin brothers are in/on the same basketball team. 这对双胞胎兄弟在同一个篮球队。(2) team 表示由若干人组成的队或组时，具有集合意义。在句中作主语时，谓语根据情况可用单数（侧重整体）或复数（侧重个体）。  2. When we make resolutions at the beginning of the year …此处beginning作名词， 意为“开头；开端”。 at the beginning of 的反义短语为at the end of, 意为“在……结尾/末端”。例：At the beginning, I had no interest in physics.4. … we hope that we are going to improve our lives.improve v. 改善；提高(1) improve 此处作及物动词，后接宾语。例：A good book can improve your knowledge and can teach you a lot.(2) improve 还可作不及物动词。例：Their working conditions are improving.【拓展延伸】 improvement作名词， 意为“改进；改善”， self-improvement“自我提升”。例：We expect to see further improvement over the coming year.5. Many resolutions have to do with self-improvement.have to do with 与……有关系例：Most of his questions had to do with his lessons.他的大部分问题与功课有关。【拓展延伸】have nothing to do with...  与……没有关系。例：The man believed that he had nothing to do with the car accident.这个男人相信他与这次车祸毫无关系。6. Some people might say they are going to take up a hobby like ....take up 开始做；学着做例：My father took up the study of English at the age of forty.我的父亲40岁时开始学英语。【拓展延伸】take up 还可意为“占用（时间、空间等）”。例：The sofa takes up too much room. 这张沙发占地太多。7. Some resolutions have to do with better planning , like making a weekly plan for schoolwork.1)句中planning 为名词，表示“计划、规划”例：Are you interested in city planning？ 你对城市规划有兴趣吗？2)句中weekly 为形容词，表示“每周的”例：Happy Camp is a weekly TV program. 《快乐大本营》是一档每周一期的电视节目。8. To question the idea of making resolution.句中question为动词，意为“提出疑问；质疑；提问”例：I never question his ability to do the job. 我从不怀疑他做这项工作的能力。9. They may help to make you a better person and to make your life easier.make在本句中出现两次，均用作使役动词，意为“使；让”。其结构分别为：make sb./ sth. + n. 让某人/ 某物成为……make sb./ sth. + adj. 让某人/ 某物……例：Make your enemy your friend.例：His words made me angry. 10. The first resolution is about my own personal improvement.1)own在本句中作形容词，一般放在形容词性物主代词之后，用以强调“某人自己的”。例：I wanted to create my own dishes. 2)own还可作代词用，意为“自己的东西；独自”，常用在以下短语中：of one’s own 属于某人自己的 例：He has a mind of his own. 他很有主见。on one’s own 独立地；独自 例：He can do lots of things on his own. 他能独立做很多事情。3)own还可作动词，意为“拥有”，不用于进行时态。owner为名词, 意为“物主；所有权人；主人”。例：Bob owns the farm. That means he is the owner of the farm.4)personal adj. 个人的；私人的personal由“person(n.人)+-al(形容词后缀)构成，常用于名词前作定语”。例：It is just my personal opinion. 例：It’s bad manners to ask others personal questions, such as age and marriage. 11.
