When Allen invited me n a camping trip t the muntains, I imagined a wden cabin verlking a lake, with a warm fireplace, ht cca, and sft beds. But my happy image became a nightmare when Allen and his lder brther, Le, shwed up with a truck filled with camping equipment—tents, sleeping bags, and water bttles, We were ging n survival training!
The ever-efficient Le was keen t leave the city behind us and urged us t hurry. Several hurs later, as we drve thrugh the frest, the muntains seemed bigger than I remembered; the trees were larger, and the envirnment felt mre threatening.
At the trailhead, Le tied a sleeping bag nt my already heavy pack and lectured Allen and me abut hiking rules. Then, with Le in the lead, we set ff alng the narrw and steep dirt track that wund up the muntain.
After 6 hurs f climbing, we finally reached the tp. My legs aching, I drpped my pack and graned but there was n time t rest. "We need t set up camp quickly," said Le." There are dark cluds cming in. A strms n its way."
I thught he was kidding, but Le was quite serius. He and Allen wrked expertly, while I std arund and pretended t help, thunder rumbling in the distance. We just finished putting up the tents when it hit. The wind, thunder, and lightning were relentless.
Le, sensing that I was scared, started telling us sme stries abut his camping adventures. But each time lightning lit up the tent and the thunder eched, I jumped. "Dn't wrry. Summer strms pass quickly," Le said trying t cmfrt me. "And at least the rain will keep the bears away," he said with a teasing smile, which was less cmfrting.[ZXXK]
And just as quickly as the strm came rushing in, it passed, and we exited the tent. The view was incredible — I culd see fr miles. As darkness set in, I stared in wnder at the millins f glwing stars in the night sky.
I wn't lie — I was still wishing fr a hpt shwer and a sft bed, but as I gazed upward at the Milky Way, I knew this was an adventure I wuld never frget.

Yur brain isn’t necessarily the same age as the rest f yu. Nw, it may be pssible t predict hw quickly a persn’s brain will age thrughut life based n tests taken when he r she is three years ld.
A persn’s bilgical age may be a better indicatr f their health than their real age. Brain age can be measured using brain scans and machine-learning t determine if a persn’s brain lks lder r yunger than the average healthy brain fr peple f the same age.
T find ut if brain age might reveal anything abut a persn’s health in midlife, Max Ellitt at Duke University in Nrth Carlina and his clleagues assessed the brains f 869 adults in New Zealand wh have undergne regular medical and cgnitive (认知的) testing since they were 3 years ld.
When the vlunteers, all aged between 43 and 46, underwent MRI brain scans, the team fund that their brain ages ranged frm 23 t 71. Thse with lder brain ages perfrmed wrse n tests f cgnitin, memry and IQ. The researchers als fund that sme peple have a very advanced brain age but their bdies seem t be ageing slwly, and vice versa (反之亦然). Hwever, the team fund that thse wh had the highest scres n cgnitive tests when they were 3 years ld went n t have the yungest-lking brains.
This suggests we might be able t tell wh is at risk f accelerated brain ageing early in life. Researchers hpe that predicting brain ageing earlier in life culd allw treatments fr cnditins like dementia (痴呆) t be started sner. This means treatments might have a better chance f wrking.
We dn’t yet have a way t treat brain ageing, but given the knwn benefits t the brain f healthy eating and exercise, these aren’t a bad place t start.
28.What helps predict the speed f ne’s brain ageing?
A.One’s health cnditin. B.A test result at the age f 3.
C.The actual age f ne’s brain. D.A machine fr medical check.
    29.What is the purpse f Ellitt’s research?
A.T find ut why peple lk lder r yunger.
B.T measure peple’s brain age at different stages.
C.T discver whether brain age can be measured by machines.
D.T explre the relatinship between brain age and future health.
30.What is Paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A.The findings f the brain research.
    B.The prcedure f Ellitt’s study.
    C.The infrmatin abut vlunteers.
    D.The influence f cgnitive tests.
31.What d the findings f the research imply?
    A.Peple suffering dementia can g n wrking.
B.Brain ageing culd be predicted at an early age.
C.We shuld test ur brain age earliest pssible.
D.Healthy eating and exercise can cure brain ageing.
    D
As we cntinue t explre farther ut int ur slar system and beynd, the questin f humans living n ther planets ften cmes up. Manned bases n the Mn r Mars fr example, have lng been a dream f many. There is a natural desire t explre as far as we can g, and als t extend humanity's presence n a permanent r at least semi-permanent basis. In rder t d this, hwever, it is necessary t adapt t different extreme envirnments. On the Mn fr example, a clny must be self-sustaining and prtect its inhabitants frm the airless, harsh envirnment utside.
Mars, thugh, is different. While future bases culd adapt t the Martian envirnment ver time there is als the pssibility f mdifying the surrunding envirnment instead f just c-existing with it. This is the prcess f terrafrming - adjusting Mars’ atmsphere and envirnment t make it mre Earth-like. But the bigger questin is, shuld we?
One f the main issues is whether Mars has any native life r nt and if it des, shuld it be preserved as much as pssible? If the answer is yes, then large-scale human settlements n Mars shuld be cmpletely ff-limits. Small clnics might be fine, but living n Mars shuld nt be at the expense f any native habitats, if they exist. If Mars is hme t any indigenus life, then terrafrming shuld be a nn-issue; it simply shuld nt be dne.
What if Mars is lifeless? Even if n life exists there, that untuched and unique alien envirnment needs t be preserved as it is as much as pssible. We’ve already dne t much damage here n ur wn planet. By studying Mars and ther planets and mns in their current natural state, we can learn s much abut their histry and als learn mre abut ur wn wrld. We shuld appreciate (he differences f ther wrlds instead f just transfrming them t suit ur wn ambitins.

33.What des the authr think we shuld d if life is fund n Mars ?
    A.Ensure that it's nt harmed.
    B.Negtiate with the Martians.

34.What des the underlined wrd “indigenus” in paragraph 3 mean?
    A.Cmplex.B.Freign. C.Native. D.Intelligent
35.Hw des the authr develp his ideas in the text?
