Mst peple knw this jke. But recently, sme peple have been much mre wrried abut hw the grizzly bear and muntain lin can crss the rad.
“Millins f animals die each year n U.S. rads,” the Federal Highway Administratin reprts. In fact, nly abut 80 celts, an endangered wild cat, exist in the U. S. tday. The main reasn? Rad kill.
“Ecpassages” may help animals crss the rad withut being hit by cars. They are paths bth ver and under rads. “These ecpassages can be extremely useful, s that wildlife can avid rad accidents,” said Jdi Hilty f the Wildlife Prtectin Sciety.
But d animals actually use the ecpassages? The answer is yes. Paul Beier f Nrthern Arizna University fund ft marks left by muntain lins n an ecpassage that went under a highway. This shwed that the lins used the passage.
Builders f ecpassages try t make them lk like a natural part f an area by planting trees n and arund them. Animals seem t be catching n. Animals as different as salamanders and grizzly bears are using the bridges and underpasses.
