1. 中西方文化在相貌描述时应注意的文化差异: 肥胖和年龄
中国文化中人们并不忌讳肥胖和年龄。汉语中就有描述肥胖的一些褒义词，如“富态，发福，心宽体胖”；在英美等西方国家，人们在交往中多会回避使用，往往会使用一些意义中性（如heavy）, 或委婉的词语（如heavy-set等），甚至会说She’s n a diet 来暗指某人体胖。关于年龄，人们对于年龄的敏感度较英美等西方国家要低许多。例如，“老张，姜还是老的辣，资历老”等都是些颇具积极意义的词汇。而在西方，人们认为年龄是私密，很少直接描述某人的年龄，往往会用She’s nt s yung./He is nt yung any mre.这样的话语来说一个人“老”。
2. face 一词的文化内涵
1）face 作名词，本义为“脸”，如face t face(面对面），make a face (做鬼脸）
2）face 作名词，还可以译为“面子”，如lse/save ne’s face(丢脸/挽回面子）
3）face 作动词，意为“面临，正视，面向”，如face t the suth (朝南），face danger(面对危险），face prblems (正视问题)。
