The Silk Rad is a histrical netwrk f interlinking trade rutes acrss the Afr-Eurasian landmass that cnnected East, Suth, and Western Asia with the Mediterranean and Eurpean wrld, as well as parts f Nrth and East Africa. Extending 4,000 miles (6,500 km), the Silk Rad gets its name frm the lucrative Chinese silk trade alng it, which began during the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).
Trade n the Silk Rad was a significant factr in the develpment f the civilizatins f China, India, Persia, Eurpe and Arabia. Thugh silk was certainly the majr trade item frm China, many ther gds were traded, and varius technlgies, religins and philsphies, as well as the bubnic plague (the "Black Death"), als traveled alng the Silk Rutes. The main traders during Antiquity were the Indian and Bactrian traders, then frm the 5th t the 8th century the Sgdian traders, then afterward the Arab and Persian traders.
