Walter, a 3-year-old dog that survived on his own for almost a year recently came back to his owner, who said she never gave up the hope that he was still alive.
Kate Olson, who lives in New Hampshire, celebrated the safe return of Walter, who was lost last year. “There was part of me that just always knew that I was going to get him,” said Olson.
Olson was visiting her boyfriend's parents in St. Louis for the holidays when Walter escaped. Walter was on a walk with her boyfriend's parents and he just got so frightened that he got rid of his collar and took off.
Olson, who got Walter when he was an 8-week-old puppy, searched for Walter for two weeks without any luck. She said it was hard to go back home knowing he was missing.
To continue her search for Walter, Olson posted all the social media asking for help. She created a Facebook group called “Where's Walter?” to get help from people in the community.
A member of that Facebook group saw a post about a dog sighting (目睹) and sent it to Olson. Luckily, the dog in the photo was Walter.
Walter was caught by an organization called Lost Paws Trapping. “13 days shy of living in the woods, avoiding everyone he met and finally on Friday, Walter was trapped,” Lost Paws Trapping wrote on its Facebook page.
Olson said seeing Walter after nearly a year was extremely emotional. “I had to control my feelings just because...I was in shock,” she said.
Despite Walter's living on his own for the past year, Olson said Walter seemed physically unharmed and should be OK. She is thankful for her happy ending and her friends on social media who helped track down Walter. Her advice for anyone with a missing pet is “just to keep trying”.
“Not everybody does have this ending,” she added. “I never in a million years thought that I would be one of them.”

King Tut, Egypt's famous boy king, was buried with many valuable objects. A dagger(匕首)discovered in his tomb has recently attracted extra attention. Researchers have concluded that the dagger was probably made from a special material.
King Tut was only about nine years old when he became the ruler of Egypt more than 3,300 years ago. The young king died when he was just 19. His body was buried in a tomb filled with objects that people believed he would need in the afterlife.
In 1922, Howard Carter discovered Tut's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Up to now, it has been the best preserved ancient Egyptian tomb ever found. In 1925, Carter found the dagger which has a gold handle and an iron blade(刀身).The blade had confused experts because iron was hardly used at that time in ancient Egypt. In fact, it was so rare that it was considered more valuable than gold. Where did the iron for the blade come from?
Around the time of King Tut, ancient Egyptians started using a new word for iron that translates as “iron from the sky”. This led some experts to believe that the iron for the blade came from a meteorite(陨石). But studies of the dagger carried out in the 1970s and 1990s didn't support that idea.
That's where modern technology comes in. Researchers used a new technique to examine the blade. They discovered that it was made up of iron and other materials found in meteorites. After comparing it to several meteorites, they even found its possible match—a meteorite that landed in northern Egypt thousands of years ago.
Scientists hope the new study will lead to more discoveries about other ancient Egyptian relics. “It would be very interesting to analyze more Pre-Iron Age objects and we could gain precious discoveries,” Daniela Comelli, who is a professor, said.
8.What do we know about Tut's tomb?
A.It was built when he was 9.
B.It was perfectly kept when discovered.
C.It had a lot of iron objects in it.
D.It was the first tomb to be found.
9.Why do scientists pay extra attention to the dagger ?
A.It is King Tut's favourite object.
B.Its blade is made of iron.
C.It is more valuable than gold.
    D.It leads to more discoveries.
10.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
    A.The iron. B.The material.
    C.A meteorite. D.The blade.
11.The researchers used modern technology to show .
A.more valuable objects are hidden in the tomb
B.iron is widely used in ancient Egypt
    C.ancient Egyptian objects are excellent
D.Tut's dagger was partly made from a meteorite

As COVID-19 continues to spread among humans around the world, conservationists(环境保护主义者)are warning of its possible danger to another group: Africa's endangered mountain gorillas(大猩猩). Congo's Virunga National Park is home to about 30 percent of the world's mountain gorillas.
The park is closed until June 1 because scientists believe the gorillas may be able to catch COVID-19. Mountain gorillas can get some diseases that humans get. A simple cold can kill a gorilla, says the World Wide Fund for Nature. That is why park visitors are not allowed to get too close to gorillas. Rules call for a 7-meter distance between gorillas and humans.
Conservationists have welcomed the decision. Paula Kahumbu leads the Kenya-based conservation group WildlifeDirect. She says that “every possible effort must be made” to protect mountain gorillas because so few are left in the wild.
Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka is the leader of the Uganda-based Conservation Through Public Health. She noted a study done this year by her organization and Ohio University. She said the study showed that the rule separating gorillas and tourists was not effective.
Kalema-Zikusoka said the study showed that the seven-meter rule was useless almost every time a group of visitors entered the park. She said visitors were responsible for that about sixty percent of the time. In the other cases, it was the gorillas that moved too close to the humans.
Uganda has not announced a shutdown of gorilla park tourism. However, the number of visitors from Europe and other places has sharply decreased.
Mountain gorillas have been listed as endangered since 1996.But their population is now growing. Tourism brings much foreign money into Rwanda and Uganda. The money gets from tourism is important in the efforts to protect mountain gorillas. Officials can use it to help local communities. Some observers worry a fall in tourism during the COVID-19 crisis(危机)could endanger gorillas.
12.Why is Congo's Virunga National Park closed?
A.Scientists have made some new rules.
B.Scientists think gorillas may get COVID-19.
C.There are no tourists during the COVID-19 crisis.
D.There is no money to run it.
    13.According to the text,Kalema-Zikusoka thinks .
    A.the 7-meter rule is useful
B.the visitors are breaking the rule all the time
C.we cannot separate gorillas and tourists effectively
D.every possible effort must be made to protect the gorillas
14.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The money from tourism has a great effect on the protection of gorillas.
B.The money from tourism could endanger gorillas in Africa.
C.The number of gorillas is getting smaller in Rwanda an Uganda.
D.Gorillas could easily catch COVID-19 in Rwanda and Uganda.
15.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
    A.Gorillas Are in Danger

Manners are a set of practices and forms which are followed in a wide variety of situations. If you are a newcomer to a particular culture, learning these rules can be very challenging. 16 It is safe to assume that there is a rule in every situation one might encounter. 17 That's why many people study manners before travelling or entering a new social circle to ensure that they aren't considered to be impolite or aggressive.
18 For example, the concept of greeting people politely and with respect is common to people of many cultures, although the way to show respect may vary. In some Asian countries, for example, people may bow or grasp their hands together when greeting someone, while in the United States, people often shake hands or hug each other.
The consequences of mistakes in manners may vary. 19 As a result, the people present at the time of the mistake might form a negative impression of you. At worst, a mistake could cost you a friendship or a job, and in some regions of the world, a serious one could cost you your life.
By treating people as respectfully as you can and by using common sense, you will probably avoid most dangerous behavior-related situations. 20 It is especially important to learn such guides in the library or on the Internet in advance in case conflicts are caused thoughtlessly.
A.The rules of manners govern how people behave.
B.Actually, even old hands sometimes have a tough time.
C.Manners begin when meeting someone for the first time.
D.But the good news is that it is very simple to learn manners.
E.At a minimum, you might make others feel slightly awkward.
F.And the rules of manners of different cultures can be quite different.
G.However, if you are planning to enter an unfamiliar culture, it pays to do some research.

Suzy sat on her bed and gave a deep sigh. It was time to pack for Grandma's house. But what should she bring?
“I can't go without Teddy,” Suzy said. She put her little bear into the suitcase. Then she added her other animals. She might need them to play with, she thought. Her cousins would be visiting Grandma's house. But what if they didn't remember her?
Suzy was afraid she might get bored. “I'll need my books,” she said, “my beach ball, my baseball mitt (棒球手套), and my building blocks.”
Mama came in to help. Suzy brought her crayons and paints and colored paper. “What if there's nothing to do?” Suzy asked her. Mama smiled. She told Suzy about the fun things she did growing up on Grandma's farm.
“Teddy and the other toys will be fun to play with,” Mama said. “But let's pack your swimsuit—just in case you want to try something new.”
“I don't think I'll like swimming in a pond,” Suzy said.
Honk (汽车喇叭声)! Honk!“Let's go! Let's go!” Papa called from the driveway. “The last one in is a hairy bear!”
Mama helped Suzy close her suitcase and carry it to the car. “You're going to have fun!” Mama said.
Suzy felt very nervous. She had never spent the night away from home. She hugged her teddy bear tight as they drove to Grandma's farm. As their car pulled up on the driveway, Suzy heard the sound of water and the laughter of some kids. She looked out of the window and saw her cousins swimming in the lake.
“Suzy's here!” called her aunts and uncles from the door. They were smiling and waving as they ran down the path. A colorful sign read “Welcome.”

15.D 主旨大意题。根据第一段“As COVID-19 continues to spread among humans around the world, conservationists are warning of its possible danger to another group: Africa's endangered mountain gorillas.”以及最后一段最后两句“Officials can use it to help local communities. Some observers worry a fall in tourism during the COVID-19 crisis could endanger gorillas.”,结合全文内容可知,本文主要讲述的是新冠肺炎可能危及大猩猩。A项“大猩猩处于危险之中”;B项“新冠肺炎影响旅游业”;C项“新冠肺炎的暴发”;D项“新冠肺炎可能危及大猩猩”。A、B项信息表述过于片面;C项不是本文主要内容。故选D。

    Paragraph 2:
At the end of the day, Suzy could hardly wait to call her parents to tell them what happened during the day. She told her mother that she was nervous about riding alone, and talked about how happy she was to play with everyone, too. Suzy also told her mother that the delicious food cooked by her grandmother was all her favorite food. Mother told Suzy that there were many interesting things in Grandma's farm, which could be tried together with friends. It could not only promote friendship, but also help discover different pleasures.
