    Part-time jobs for the 15-and 16-year-olds
      Waiters/Waitresses
A job as a waiter or waitress is a good choice for the 16-year-olds. They not only can earn $9—$12 an hour, but can also get tips(小费). Most people that visit a restaurant don't just have good food. They come here to relax and have a good time. Besides serving food quickly, a young waiter who talks to them politely with a smile on his face will make the diners enjoy their time in the restaurant.
      Work in a library
If one is fond of books, working in a library is another suitable choice. Besides the good pay, it offers a lot of free time when students can actually sit down and finish their homework. So on returning home, they would have time to hang around with friends or just to relax. So working in a library is an excellent part-time job for teens, especially for the school students.
      Internet jobs
There are many ways of making money through online jobs like clicking on advertisements, visiting sites and signing up with them. However, such online jobs don't pay well. A better Internet job for teens is to complete online surveys. These are quite simple surveys that usually ask one about his/her opinions and ideas. Many companies use these ideas to make products designed for teenagers.

C.teach young people how to make lots of money

    B
A girl had to usually face adversity(逆境). One day, she couldn't help complaining to her father about her life and how things were so hard for her. She didn't know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of struggling. It seemed as if one problem was solved and a new one arose.
Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to the boil. In the first he placed carrots and in the second he placed eggs, and in the last he placed ground coffee beans. He let them into the water and boil, without saying a word.
The daughter waited impatiently, wondering what he was doing. In about twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He made the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in another bowl. Then he poured the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her, he asked, “What do you see?” “Carrots, eggs and coffee,” she replied.
He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma(香味). She humbly asked, “What does it mean, Father?”
He explained that each of them had faced the same hardship—boiling water, but each reacted differently. The carrot had been strong and hard. But after being put into the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been easily broken. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid inner. But after going through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique. After they were in the boiling water, they changed the water. “Which are you?” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?”
How about you, my friend? Are you the carrot that seems hard, but with pain and adversity you move back and become soft and lose your strength? Are you the egg, which starts off with a flexible heart? Did you have a liquid spirit, but after a breakup, a divorce, or a layoff, have you become hardened and stiff? Your shell looks the same, but are you bitter and tough with a stiff heart? Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean changes the boiling water, which brings the pain. When the water gets the hottest, it just tastes better. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and make things better around you.
Ask yourself how you handle adversity. Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?
4.The father took his daughter to the kitchen in order to .

When the campus of Shekou International School (SIS) is still kept shut because of the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching activities at the school have been resumed(重新开始) online since Feb. 3, 2020.
The school is using popular apps and software for online learning. Video conferencing and office automation are used to help teachers keep track of students' conditions and communicate with their workmates across the world. Teaching online also offers a new experience to the teachers to update their teaching methods and to step out of their comfort zones.
Staying in Phuket, Thailand, science teacher Riley Laird records videos on a 10-year-old green sea turtle named Marlin and the local turtle sanctuary(收养所) as part of the online classes on ecosystems for Grade 7 students. “I want to connect our learning with the reality. The sanctuary sends us updates on the turtles' health and progress. They say that Marlin is likely to be released into the sea in mid-June,” says Laird.
Rebecca Wallace is a Grade 4 teacher at the school, staying in her mother's home in New York. From 8 p.m. to midnight every day, she starts teaching mathematics and arts to her students living in various time zones. Though teaching nearly around the clock, Wallace says that she is getting to know the students better in terms of their homes, family and even pets.
Greg Smith, head of SIS, names the online teaching period “new normal” at the school. “Students are now more skillful at using technology than before. They see that communication is the most powerful part of being an effective learner and can use the tools to shrink distance and time. The ‘new normal’ will offer more opportunities of connecting to the world and more focuses on creating real solutions,” he says.

With the development of our society, cellphones have become a common part in our lives. Have you ever run into a careless cellphone user in the street? Maybe they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name—phubbers (低头族).
Recently a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cellphone while letting his patient die. A pretty woman takes a selfie (自拍) in front of a car accident site. And a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events will finally lead to the destruction(毁灭) of the world.
Although the ending of the film sounds unrealistic, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and the result of it. “Always bending your head to check your cellphone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors' words. “The neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cellphones for a long time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. When getting together with family or friends, many people prefer to play their cellphones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
It can also cost your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cellphones in broad daylight.
12.Why does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragraph 2?
A.To suggest phubbers will destroy the world.
B.To call for people to go walking without phones.
C.To tell people the bad effects of phubbing.
D.To advise students to create more cartoons like this.
13.According to the passage, what risks may a phubber have?
    ①Destructing the world.
    ②Affecting his social skills.
    ③Damaging his neck and eyesight.
④Getting separated from his friends and family.
    A.①②④ B.②③④
    C.①③④ D.①②③④
14.What's the author's attitude towards phubbing?
    A.Supportive. B.Confident.
    C.Disapproving. D.Unconcerned.
15.What will be talked about in the following paragraph?
A.Ways to avoid the risks of phubbing.
    B.Bad effects of phubbing.
    C.Daily life of phubbers.
    D.Behaviours of phubbers.

When Lisa was a little girl, she learned an important lesson from her father. Her father told her that when facing a problem, she should never give up. Instead she should try another solution. In the following years, Lisa always remembered her father's words.
When Lisa was little, she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. It was always her dream. But it was not an easy road. After leaving college, Lisa went to Paris with her designs in order to make her dream come true. In Paris, she tried to talk to famous designers and show them some of her designs, but none of them showed any interest.
Though Lisa was discouraged, she didn't give up. One day, at a friend's party, she was introduced to a young lady who was dressed in a beautiful knitted(编织的) sweater. It wasn't a fancy color, but it did have very special stitches(针法). Lisa asked that lady if she knitted it herself. She said it was a work of a lady in Paris.
Lisa really loved the special stitches and wanted to include them in her designs. And then Lisa had an even braver idea. “Why not own a fashion store of my own? That way, I could design, make and sell my own clothes,” she thought. So she decided to begin with that kind of sweaters.
Lisa's friend introduced her to Madam Dean who knitted that sweater. The lady was from Armenia and she learned to knit that kind of sweater from people in her country.
Lisa drew a picture of a sweater and asked Madam Dean to knit the sweater for her. Madam Dean agreed. One week later, Lisa got the sweater. The following day after Lisa received it, she wore it to a party in the fashion industry.
Lisa was very nervous but she was lucky. Not long after the party began, her sweater drew the attention of a store owner from New York. She wanted to order 40 such sweaters in two weeks. Lisa was really happy and accepted the order.
    Paragraph 1:
The next day, Lisa told the good news to Madam Dean.

    Paragraph 2:
Lisa then remembered her father's words.

根据第三段中“Always bending your head to check your cellphone could damage your neck”和“Also, staring at cellphones for a long time will damage your eyesight gradually”以及第四段第二句“Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family.”

故选A。

原句 Although the ending of the film sounds unrealistic, the damage phubbing can bring is real.

故选A。

原句 So keep the books of other subjects away from your eyesight so that you won't be upset about all the things you have to learn.
远离……”;so that引导目的状语从句,表示“为的是……,以便……”,从句中“you have to learn”是省略了引导词that的定语从句,修饰先行词all the things。
at在某处;on在……上;with用。
when当……时;as随着;since自……
turn off关掉。

Here, too, is the story of a man who remembers the day when he went swimming alone and recalls “the crazy, childish joy with which he played in the water like a fish”.
主句是倒装句,Here放在句首且主语是名词,所以此处使用了完全倒装;who引导定语从句,修饰先行词a man,在这个定语从句中还包含两个定语从句,一个是“when he went swimming alone”,是when引导的定语从句,修饰先行词a day,另一个是“with which he played in the water like a fish”,是“介词+which”结构引导的定语从句,修饰先行词the crazy, childish joy。

短语be different from... 不同”,my own country作介词from的宾语。
短语be/feel unwilling to do sth.

What worried me at first was that I couldn't speak English fluently, and I also couldn't understand their customs.
What worried me at first是What引导的主语从句,作句子的主语,“that I couldn't speak English fluently”是that引导的表语从句,作句子的表语。
    One possible version:
    Dear Miss Worried,
I'm sorry to know that you're having difficulty falling asleep. The truth is that everyone will face great pressure when entering high school, so you don't have to worry so much. Here are three tips.
First, talk to someone you trust about how you feel. This is a good way of sharing your feelings and getting support. Second, go outdoors and play team games with your friends as physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of pressure. And third, work out a schedule and follow it. This way, you can make good use of your time.
I hope you'll find them useful.
    Yours,
    Li Hua

The next day, Lisa told the good news to Madam Dean. She told her about the order. Madam Dean almost shouted when she learned about that. “What? 40 such sweaters in two weeks? That's impossible! Do you know how long it took me to make the sweater for you? It took me one week,” said Madam Dean. Lisa was very sad to hear that. But she didn't want to lose such a great opportunity. It was really important to her.

At last, all the sweaters were finished in two weeks. The sweaters were all delivered to New York on time. Lisa was closer to her dream.
