Video games are most commonly associated with violence and aggression. They promote antisocial behavior in children. True, they are not outdoor games, but they are interactive. Here are some positive effects of video games.
Games like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope have been shown to be of help in improving problem-solving skills. Video games based on words or number puzzles have a similar effect. In 2008, researchers in the University of Washington created a game called Foldit, which lets the players model a genetic make-up of proteins. The phase(相位) estimates made by high scoring players helped in the identification of the crystal structure(晶体结构) of a monkey virus related to AIDS. This breakthrough can largely result from the problem-solving skills exercised during the game play.
Video games require players to plan their moves and take strategic decisions, which means planning right and taking necessary action at the right time. Playing video games is thus beneficial to improving planning and decision-making skills. According to a study from the University of Rochester, those who played action video games and computer games made decisions 25% faster than others.
Adam Gazzaley from the University of California tried to show how video games improved multitasking skills. His experiments showed that playing a 3D racing game could improve one's ability to multitask. It has been found that expert gamers can pay attention to six different things at the same time as opposed to others who can attend to only four things at a time.
Some video games help develop skills that are directly relevant to certain professions. Flight simulation games, for example, can be used for training pilots. From the results of Dr.Rosser's experiment in 2007, it was astonishing to know that surgeons who played video games were faster in action and made fewer mistakes. Business simulation games help develop real business skills. A game like Zoo Tycoon gives the players an experience of managing a zoo. Games like America's Army have been used to train the US army soldiers.
If there is no restriction of the time for which children are allowed to play these games, they are bound to have a negative effect on children. If game playing lacks parental supervision, children might make the wrong choices and participate in violent games, or games not meant for children of their age.
4.Which of the following statements about video games is NOT true?
A.They develop mathematical skills and reading abilities.
B.They require players to receive information passively.
C.They encourage antisocial elements and violence.
D.They expose players to some real-life situations.
5.What is Angry Birds helpful for?
A.Problem-solving.
B.Decision-making.
C.Multitasking.
D.Emotion-developing.
6.What is used to show video games can help make decisions faster?
A.The results of the University of Washington in 2008.
B.The results of Dr. Rosser's experiment in 2007.
C.A study from the University of California.
D.A study from the University of Rochester.
7.What do the effects of video games depend on from the last paragraph?
A.Designers who created the video games.
B.Types and the time for which they are played.
C.The rules of the video games.

The Raining Fish Weather
Lajamanu,Australia,is a dry little town, sitting right on the edge of the Tanami Desert. Can you imagine how surprised people were when live fish rained down on them from dark gray clouds? It happens that there are similar cases in England and Honduras.
How do clouds make fish? The simple answer is that they don't. There is a particular weather phenomenon (现象) called a waterspout. A waterspout is just like a tornado. It only forms above oceans, lakes,or rivers. Like a tornado,a waterspout moves in a circle at high speed. When it moves above the water, it tends to carry the fish with it, as well as frogs or other small plants or animals.
Scientists couldn't work it out at first. To make matters stranger still, the fish in Honduras were very much alive when they rained down on the ground, but they were all blind. In England and Australia,it rained fish and snakes, and none were blind. It was difficult to puzzle out,but the blind fish gave them a place to start.
Scientists knew that some fish that lived in deep, underground caves with no light often lost their sight. So when blind fish rained down on Honduras, scientists began to connect some dots. Clearly, these particular fish were pulled from an underground water source by force.
It has rained fish on every continent, and each time, people have tried in various ways to explain this strange phenomenon. Historically, villagers thought the “fish from the heavens”might be answers to prayers for food. Others suggested that floods overran riverbanks and oceans, leaving the fish on the city streets. No scientist had actually seen the rain as it occurred, only the fish left on the ground. But in 1990, a National Geographic team happened to be in Honduras when the Rain of Fish began. They recorded what was happening and made history by finally proving that the fish did fall from the sky.
This huge breakthrough wasn't just a spot of good luck. It changed thousands of years of myths and legends into true stories and provided scientific explanations for how fish living in deep caves came to a faraway place. It explained ancient cave paintings and shed new light on how species have spread over time. It turned out to be a lot more than just the raining fish weather.
8.According to the passage, which one is TRUE about the waterspout?
A.It can make animals blind.
B.It is difficult to catch on film.
C.It can carry items with it.
D.It is a dangerous sea creature.
9.What did the blind fish make the scientists start to think about?

B.Animals changed to match their environments.
C.The weather system differed from place to place.
D.The waterspout theory seemed more possible.
10.What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph probably suggest?
A.Waterspouts came to be a center of scientific research.
B.The scientists were fortunate to have made their discoveries.
C.Hard work went into determining the cause of the raining fish.
D.The scientists relied heavily on unusual events to drive their studies.
11.The author writes the passage to .

Waste heat from one of the London Underground's tube lines will be used to warm over a thousand homes in the UK capital this winter. The warm air will be channeled from the Northern Line to support the London Borough of Islington's district heating.
Named Bunhill 2,the heat network is a joint project between Islington Council, Transport for London and the engineering firm Ramboll and is considered as the first of its kind in Europe. The council hopes the system will make London more self-sufficient (自给自足的) in energy, cut carbon emissions and reduce heating bills for people.Meanwhile, the tube passengers on the Underground can also expect cooler air.
District heating, also known as heat networks, is the supply of heat and hot water from a central source to a group of buildings. The Bunhill 2 district heating system is the second phase (阶段) of Islington Council's Bunhill Heat and Power scheme—a heat network in Islington that was established in 2013 to warm approximately 700 homes.
The network currently channels heat created in the Bunhill 2 Energy Centre power station into local council housing, schools and a leisure centre. Bunhill 2 will extend this network to more community buildings and a further 450 homes.
The central source of the Bunhill 2 heat network is a ventilation shaft (通风井)—a passage that is used to expel waste heat—in the abandoned (废弃的) City Road station. A heat pump designed by Ramboll will capture this extra heat from the ventilation shaft, before it is warmed to approximately 70 degrees Celsius. This will then be transferred (转移) to Islington's heat network to supply heat and hot water to buildings.
According to the Greater London Authority, there is enough waste heat in London to meet 38 per cent of the city's heating demand. The expansion of district heating networks like Bunhill 2 could see this increase to 63 per cent by 2050.
“We believe that the use of large-scale heat in this way connected to urban district heating systems will play a major part in meeting the UK's heating energy demand,” explained Lucy Padfield, director of District Heating at Ramboll.
“The use of heat pumps taking advantage of industrial waste heat sources is more carbon-efficient than gas-fired combined heat and power, the usual source of heat for district energy schemes,” she continued. “I am convinced that with the increasing use of renewable power sources, large-scale heat pumps connected to district heating systems will play a major role in the future heating of cities in the UK.”
12.What can we learn about Bunhill 2 in London?
A.It is inspired by other cities in Europe.
B.It will be beneficial to London's environment.
C.It can satisfy the whole city's need for heat.
D.It is aimed at cooling the London Underground.
13.What does the underlined word “expel” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A.Rely on. B.Deal with.
C.Break down. D.Drive out.
14.What is Lucy Padfield's attitude towards Bunhill 2?
A.Concerned. B.Confident.
C.Amazed. D.Disapproving.
15.What is the text mainly about?
A.London's special ways to protect the environment.
B.The development of London's district heating network.
C.Using waste heat from the Underground to warm homes.
D.Ways to deal with the London Underground's waste heat.

Let your children see you taking care of your own physical health by eating fruit and vegetables. Talk to them about healthy habits in appropriate terms and at a proper time. 19
20 Computers, televisions and other forms of technology are a major part of life in the 21st century. Unfortunately, as the use of technology in the home increases, so does the time spent watching TV or playing on the computer. So as parents, you should also arrange the time for your children wisely.

I grew up in a small town where the primary school was a 10-minute walk from my house and children could go home for lunch and find their mothers waiting. At the time, I did not consider this a luxury(奢侈), although today it certainly would be. I took it for granted that mothers were the sandwich-makers, the finger-painting appreciators and the homework monitors.
I never questioned that this ambitious, intelligent woman, who had had a career before I was born and would eventually return to a career, would spend almost every lunch hour throughout my primary school years just with me. I only knew that when the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me with a look that suggested I was the only important thing she had in her mind.
One lunchtime, when I was in the third grade, would stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had patiently rehearsed(排练)my lines with me. But no matter how easily I acted them at home, as soon as I stepped on stage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's part(旁白)for the play, and asked me to switch roles. Her words, while kindly delivered, still stung(刺痛),especially when I saw my part go to another girl. I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英)popping through the grass in bunches. I watched my mother bend down and pull a blossom up by its roots. She turned to me and said, “I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds. Then we'll have only roses in this garden.” “But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?” She asked thoughtfully. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that. Now, let's go inside and talk about the lines.”
Paragraph 1:
Just a few minutes before the play, my teacher came over to me.
Paragraph 2:
After the play, I took the flower home.

He retired from the sport at 74, but he never stopped his love for the track and decided to return to racing for a few special events that made him famous in his hometown and inspired others to keep pursuing their dreams as well.
分析 本句由but连接的两个并列分句构成,在第二个分句中,that made him famous in his hometown and inspired others to keep pursuing their dreams as well为that引导的定语从句,修饰先行词a few special events。
故填with。
37.to have 考查不定式。 attempt to do sth. 故填to have。
故填what。
故填However。
live a simple life过着简朴的生活。故填a。

Reason
Because of nervousness and lack of confidence, I couldn't remember my lines when I was on stage.
Beginning
“我”被选中在学校话剧中扮演一位公主,几个星期来“我”母亲一直耐心地陪“我”排练“我”的台词,但“我”总是在上台后脑海一片空白。
Development

After the play, I took the flower home.
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Just a few minutes before the play, my teacher came over to me. “A flower from your mom! You like dandelions?” my teacher asked, handing me a dandelion. I nodded with a wide smile on my face, “It's special!” It was like a small umbrella, soft and light, as if it were going to fly away in the wind. Its white head was so vulnerable that a gentle touch could damage it. “Every flower gives pleasure in its own way.” My mother's words brought me comfort. Putting the flower into my blouse pocket,I could feel the warmth it brought, through my chest, into my heart. Holding my head high,I started my performance confidently.
Paragraph 2:
After the play, I took the flower home. Mother was standing there smiling down at me. Eagerly, I walked to her, took out the flower slowly, and put it in her hand. No matter how cautious I was, the flower still went out of shape, leaving a bare stem. Seeing how sad this made me, Mother smiled at me. “It's really a weed now,” she said. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. In that spring, flowers were bringing pleasure in their own way and weeds were doing the same. And they would do so forever.
