Scientists have lng said getting a gd night's sleep is imprtant t yur health. The U.S. Natinal Institute f Health says lack f sleep may even increase the risk f impaired brain activity, r cgnitive decline(认知减退), and Alzheimer's disease.
Nw, an American team f scientists reprts that t much sleep might be similarly linked t such cnditins.
Researchers at Washingtn University Schl f Medicine in St. Luis, Missuri, did the sleep study. Their findings were published in the September issue f the scientific publicatin Brain.
Dr. Brendan Lucey is directr f the Washingtn University Sleep Medicine Center and led the research. He said, "Our study suggests that there is a middle range(区间), r ‘sweet spt,' fr ttal sleep time" fr best cgnitive perfrmance.
"Shrt and lng sleep times were assciated with wrse cgnitive perfrmance, perhaps due t insufficient(不足的) sleep r pr sleep quality, " Lucey added.
Other studies have shwn that lack f sleep was linked with cgnitive decline. A small 2018 study published in the Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences fund that lsing just ne night f sleep led t an increase in beta-amylid prductin. Beta-amylid is a metablic(新陈代谢的) waste prduct fund in between brain cells. It has been lng linked t brain disrders, such as Alzheimer's disease.
