One day, 12-year-ld Sean Redden surfed the Internet and went t a ppular chat rm. Just as he was abut t be ffline. he saw a name he'd never seen there befre Susan. Her brief message was “Wuld smene help me?”

T much sugar intake can cntribute t varius diseases. S when yu unavidably eat fds laded with sugar, is there a way t reduce the impact? Recent studies suggest there culd be a few tricks t eating healthy, and they dn't invlve reducing yur sugar intake.
Sugar ften gets a bad reputatin because we eat it alne. If fds are laded with simple carbhydrates, they rapidly increase bld sugar levels. When this happens, we try t bring the sharp increase dwn by increasing the prductin f sugar-lwering hrmnes such as insulin and incretin. If we increase them t much t ften, this mechanism stps wrking, which can lead t type 2 diabetes.
But there are ways t prevent. Peple can start by simply eating less sugar, r eating it with ther fds. Perhaps the best type f fd t eat sugar with is prtein. The intake f prtein leads t the release f glucagn, anther hrmne, which maintains insulin levels.
Sme recent research suggests we shuld take ne step further. Studies shw the rder in which yu eat varius types f fd matters. The mst recent study had participants—all with type 2 diabetes eat the same meal n three different days, but in varius rder. One day, they ate carbhydrates first, fllwed 10 minutes later by prtein and vegetables, then prtein and vegetables first, fllwed by carbhydrates 10 minutes after, and finally everything eaten tgether at the same time.
Researchers measured their bld sugar levels just after the meals and every 30 minutes fr the next three hurs. They fund peaks in bld sugar levels when carbhydrates were eaten last were all arund 50 percent lwer than when they were eaten first. Even eating everything at nce prduced a spike 40 percent higher than that seen when carbhydrates came last.
