At the Ls Angeles Car Shw's annual design challenge, car cmpanies were asked t predict the highway patrl1 vehicle f 2025. As The New Yrk Times reprts, several f the cncepts were autnmus2 , designed either t be cmpletely unmanned r t help fficers mnitr3 the area.
BMW's (宝马) E­Patrl, fr example, wuld include bth “unicycle­like” rbt vehicles and a flying unmanned machine that culd be deplyed4 by plice t disable cars with an electrmagnetic pulse(电磁脉冲).
In the same time, Hnda's(本田) speculative CHP Drne Squad includes tw­and fur­wheeled autnmus vehicles. The mre cnservative5 Subaru (斯巴鲁) merely imagined a self­driving car that wuld wrk in water.GM (通用汽车公司) created a cncept that wuld run n an updated6 versin f the Chevrlet Vlt's hybrid prpulsin system (雪弗兰两用车推进系统)．
As ne can tell frm the cncept art gallery, the designs are a bit tngue­in­cheek,_built mre fr Hllywd than a real plice frce. Even s, they shw that autnmus vehicles have very much entered the public imaginatin. And, if anything, the actin­mvie feel f mst f them is a little unsettling, especially in light f the very real debates ver militarizatin7 f the plice frce.
