Traffic cngestin nt nly creates headaches fr cmmuters, but als reduces prductivity by taking away valuable time frm wrk. This sickness that plagues2 ur cities must be at least put under cntrl, if nt cured. Sme peple insist that mre rads be built t accmmdate the increase in traffic, while thers think that enlarging the capacity f public transit systems (buses, subway, trains) is the answer.
Building mre rads wuld mean a lt f land will be taken—nt a very gd prspect fr ecnmic, agricuhural, and envirnmental reasns. On the ther hand, frcing everyne t take public transit will bring incnvenience t thse whse use f their cars is essential t their wrk. Putting mre buses n the rad may have the ppsite effect as big buses tend t clg3 up narrw streets. Building an extensive subway system can be the ideal answer, but that is very expensive.
Clearly, we cannt g fr ne single slutin. A cmprmise4must be struck between the different slutins. My persnal view is that fr cities that have plenty f unused land, mre rads shuld be built. Having special lanes reserved fr bicycles and mtrcycles shuld encurage mre peple t use bicycles and mtrcycles instead f cars. As a lng­term slutin, extensive subway, r surface mnrail5 systems shuld be built fr all the mair cities.
