    Teaching aims: Learn to talk about routines; learn to talk about past events.

    Grammar: Simple present tense

    *Structure: Yes-No questions; wh- questions; it’s important to learn a second language.t(it’s + adj.+to do sth.); I was so sared that I couldn’t move.(so+adj/adv+.that+句子.)

    *Vocabulary: refer to the wordlist on P129

    Phrases: stay up late,run away, shout at ,fly a kite, put up, get a surprise, shout to, up and down,wake...up, do homework, do some sports, study for a test, feed cows, go camping, go tot the beach, have dinner with friends, swim in the river, put up a tent, make a fire, each other, last weekend,work as, tell sb.about sth, kind of,

    *Writing: learn how to write about one’s last weekend.

    *Sentences for writing:

    1)        I had a busy weekend.

    2)        On Saturday morning, I cleaned my room.

    3)        In the afternoon, I did my homework. It’s a little difficult.

    4)        On Saturday night, I stayed at home and helped mom cook dinner.

    5)        I was kind of tired so I went to bed early.

    Use the following words to write a paragraph (at least 80 words):

    studied, so,weekend,  difficult, on

    *Passage to recite: P72-3a

     

    Teaching procedures:

    Period One:

    Teaching material: P67, P68-2a, 2b, 2c, P69

    1. Lead in:use 6 pictures to talk about weekend activities.

    2. P67 1a Match the activities with the pictures.

    Language points:

    1)  camp v.   go camping    camp by the lake

    2)  boat     go boating/fishing    go +doing

    3)  go to the cinema=go to the movies

    4)  on +(星期)Saturday morning

    3. P67 1b Listen and write the day below each picture.

    4. Role play: Look at the picture on P67

    e.g. A: What did you last weekend?

       B: Well, on Saturday morning, I played badminton..     

    1. Guessing Game

    Provide 6 pictures and ask students to guess what these people do last weekend?

    Possible verbs phrases:played badminton, went boating, went to the cinema,went to the beach,went fishing,visited the Natural History Museum

    1. Some students just came back to school. The teacher wanted to know what they did last weekend.

    1) Listen once and find out what they did or where they went last weekend.  P68 2a underline the words your hear.

    2) 2b Listen again and Write C for Carol,J for Jack or B for Becky next to the statements.

    3)  Pair work  ask questions with Who, What or Where about Carol, Jack and Becky

    Each group only prepare for asking about one student’s information.

    E.g. Who visited her grandma? Becky visited her grandma.

        What did she do?    She did her homework.

    1. Grammar focus

    1) Do 69-3a  Fill in the blanks with who, what, when, where, or how.

    2) Go over the grammar focus and sum up

    Language points:

    ① 在过去时态的特殊疑问句中,一般要借助助动词did,而句子中的实义动词要用原形。

    ②  who问句需特别对待.who 在句子中做主语时,不需借助助动词did,而直接用实义动词的过去式;Who在句子中做宾语时,则需借助助动词did

    E.g. I played badminton with my friends yesterday.

       Who did you play badminton with yesterday?

    8. 2d role play the conversation

    1)  Listen, read 2d and answer 4 questions to check students’ comprehension

    ① How was Lisa’s weekend?   

    ② Where did Lisa work as a guide?

    ③ What did she do there?

    ④ Why is Paul tired now?

    2)  Listen and repeat

    3)  Work in pair to act out. Ask students to make up a new one if possible

    Language points:

    1.work as...担任,以......身份工作

    I worked as a guide in the Natural History Museum.

    I work as a teacher in Xiamen Foreign Language School.

    9. Homework:

            1.recite P68-2d

            2.copy new words of Unit 12 -P67-70(2) and self check

            3. P69-3b+3c(draw two things you did last weekend)

     

     

    Period Two:

    Teaching material: P69 3b; P70

    Teaching procedures:

    1. Warm-up:

    1) review How was your weekend? What did you do ? with 2 pictures

    2) Look at the pictures students drew and guess what they did last weekend.

    A: How was your weekend?      B: It’s not bad.

    A: What did I do last weekend?    B: You did homework.

    (ask one student from each group)

    2.  P70 1a  Here are some things that Sally and Jim did yesterday. Match the activities with the pictures. Read aloud together.

     P70- 1b  Do you think the activities in 1a are fun? Draw a happy face or an unhappy face under each picture.     Check the answers by using “I think           is fun.”

    3. P70 - 1c-1d    Listen to the conversation twice and fill in the following chart:

    Sally

    Jim

    did her homework

    sang and played the guitar

    studied for a test

    flew a kite in the park

    went to the library

    had dinner with his friends

    2)  Read after the conversation on Page 95 and ask students to pay attention to the following expressions

    I was quite busy. I had a lot of things to do.

    You had a relaxing time. I had fun. School this morning wasn’t fun.

    3) Make a conversation with a partner. Talk about what Sally and Jim did last weekend.

    4. Now let’s what a family of mice did last Saturday morning.  do P69-3b

    (Optional)

    Require students to compete to ask as many questions as they can in 1 minutes.

    5. Writing P72-3a 

    1) Look at the picture and complete the passage.

    I had a busy weekend. On Saturday morning,l _________________. In the afternoon, I ________________ . It was a little different. On Saturday night, I stayed at home and_______________ cook dinner. On Sunday morning, I ________________.I read a book about history. Then in the afternoon,I ____________ with my friends. On Sunday night,

    2)use pictures to help students recall the passage

    3)tell students how to write about their own weekend activities.(topic sentence, write in a timeline, use the past form of verbs)

     

    6. Homework:

            Read after the audio;

            Copy new words of Unit 12-P71-end

            Recite P72-3a and prepare for the quiz

            Finish P72-self check 1&2

     

     

     

    Period Three:

    Teaching material: P71-72

    Teaching procedures:

    1. Review Sentence making

    Lead in Ask students “What did you do yesterday?” Ss:  I .... and it’s great.

    Snow ball (Optional) each group choose to write down as many required names/activities(past tense)/places/past time in 1 minutes,then try to make up sentences.(It might be fun.)

    E.g.  Tom   ate an apple     under a chair    last Saturday night.

    Pre-reading

    1. Free talkP71 2a show some pictures and talk with students. What kind of animals are people afraid of? Why? Make a list.
    2. Look at the picture and guess what might happen.

    Culture note

    In China,dragon is a symbol of good luck. In Thailand, so is the elephant.

    While in India,  The snake is a symbol of long life, birth and wealth.The Indians worship snakes and play with snakes.If you travel in India, you can’t miss the snake show and experience the snake culture.

     

    While reading

    1. Listen to the tape and read carefully

    2. P71 2b read and answer the questions in 2b

    Post reading

    1.P71 2c Put the sentences into correct order

    2.Retell the story  Provide some key words to give students some hints to retell the story

    Tips for telling stories:

            Practice speaking more quickly and more slowly for great dramatic effect

            Speak more quickly when something exciting or frightening is happening.

            Speak more slowly when building up to a scary event.

    1. Language points:

    ① Keep sth/sb. +adj. 

    E.g. We made a fire to keep us warm. We had to keep our classroom clean.  

    ② So...that...

    E.g.  I was so scared that I couldn’t move. I was so tired that I went to sleep early.

    ③ Get a terrible surprise  

     My sister and I got a terrible surprise when we saw a big snake.

    ④ Lesson  教训 This is a useful lesson for me.

    ⑤ It’s important not to do sth.不做......是很重要的

    It’s important not to play with fire because it’s dangerous.
