By nw we were standing in the lng hliday line t pay the bill, and I figured it was a gd chance. I instantly slumped dwn t the flr, kicking and screaming, fllwing Susie's suit. Much t my astnishment, my mther ttally turned a blind eye, but, ut f the blue, flpped n t my side. What added t my embarrassment was that she even started yelling as well! "Becky, I want a new dress! I want a big huse, I..." Kicking and crying, she was making such a scene that mre and mre curius glances were thrwn t us.
"Mama, stp. Mama, get up," I tearfully pleaded. Child as I was, I culd feel a grwing sense f shame. Grasping my mther's sleeve, I tried hard t pull her up, swearing never t d it again. She finally rse t her feet, wiped ff tears (if any), and put n a winner's smile. Witnessing the whle thing, many cncerned nlkers expressed appreciatin fr my mther's wise respnse. After bwing slightly t the crwd, she checked ut with deliberatin, my head hanging in shame all the time. Frm then n, incidents like this always serve an educatinal purpse much better than any physical punishment.
